We care about our customers, so we give each individual the personal attention and efficient service they deserve for every job, large or small. "In December of 2019 I noticed a drain in my basement was backing up (water) and called Service Now. When the technician arrived I described the conditions of the clogged drain and he determined it was the main sewer line. He stated that a clean out valve had to be installed (at a cost of $574) to run a snake through the line. I agreed and shortly thereafter he announced he could not clear the sewer line and that another crew was needed to "jet" my sewer (at a cost of $800). I agreed and the following day two technicians arrived and stated they would run a camera through the sewer line to determine the blockage. Shortly thereafter one of the technicians produced a video showing cracks and some broken pipe fragments (but no blockage) in a section of the main sewer line. They recommended that I have the broken sections of pipe replaced (at a cost of $3600). They then proceeded to jet the sewer line and announced that the clog in the sewer had been removed. That evening (after the second Service Now crew had left) I noticed that the drain in the basement was still backing up, so on the following day when the Service Now service writer arrived to discuss the sewer line replacement, I mentioned that the drain was still backed up and he replied that "they would look at that when they came out to replace the sewer pipe". I then began to think Service Now was defrauding me and contacted another plumbing company. When they arrived a couple of days later they determined that the drain from the kitchen was clogged and had to be snaked to clear it (at a cost of $128). I agreed and the other plumbers successfully cleared the drain. I have since contacted Service Now three times (once on a three way call with my credit card company) and each time I was assured a manager would call back, and 10 months later I'm still waiting."

"As a small business owner, I strongly caution others against this HVAC/R company. In over 10 years, they?ve been the least trustworthy and poorest performing contractor I?ve worked with. We experienced repeated service issues, a 25% rate hike without notice, ignored emails, and unreturned quote requests. Worse, we were billed for work that wasn?t done?confirmed twice, including by a third-party inspection with photos. Even when confronted, they deflected and delayed for months. We had to hire another company. They also mis-sized a walk-in freezer due to bad measurements and blamed their supplier. When shown proof it was undersized, they argued with no solution. They later mismeasured again on a replacement bid. Their attitude throughout was defensive, unprofessional, and dismissive. If something goes wrong?and it likely will?they will not stand behind their work. Save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere."

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

This depends on the location of the blockage. If the blockage is in your home’s system, anywhere in the system, it is your responsibility as a homeowner. Blockages seldom happen because of items or buildup coming from the city, which means it originates in the home. It becomes the city’s responsibility at the exact point your home’s line distributes waste into the city’s system. The exception is if the problem in your home damages the city lines.

Roto-Rooter does not charge by the hour, so the quote you get after your in-person consultation should cover the whole project. This includes the time it takes a technician to get to your house and the time it takes to complete the job. For context, a plumber will charge anywhere from $45 to $200 per hour, but you may also pay a service fee or flat fee.

Depending on the home, wastewater either goes into a septic tank and seeps back into the backyard or is sent via sewer system to a local sewage-treatment plant. Septic systems naturally separate different components of the waste so that it can naturally and safely disperse it. They are usually reserved for homes not served by a municipal sewage department (like rural homes). A treatment plant, on the other hand, speeds up that process through screening and purification.

Main sewer lines can clog for several reasons. For example, if you regularly dump oil or grease down your drain, it could eventually block your line. Sometimes, tree roots can penetrate and grow inside old sewer pipes, creating a major blockage. Flushing bulky items (like paper towels, diapers, or baby wipes) can also clog your plumbing system.

The cost to unclog a sewer line is between $200 and $600, with the average homeowner spending around $380, depending on the severity of the clog. It can cost as little as $100 to snake a small clog, but you could spend up to $1,600 if you need to video inspect the line and hydrojet a large clog.
