"John Sherlock and his wife Corrine called within 1/2 hour of looking for Lightning Rod installers. He was available and was over to talk with us within one hour. He sent all his credentials and licenses and insurance coverages of his business and they came over the next morning and completed the installation extremely fast. He gave a fantastic offer, and lifetime warranty coverage and will even come over and take down system when we replace the roof and place back up at no charge! His wife even saw some plants we had not put in the garden still sitting in containers, and offered and planted them in the spaces we wanted, just to help out. Very friendly, helpful, professional, extremely knowledgeable and even suggested adding Lakeland Electrics Surge Protector protection they provide to go along with the Lightning rods. Yes would have them again on any home anytime."

"I contacted Myers Electrical Service and was very satisfied with their response. Mr. Myers was able to walk me through fixing the problem. Im surprised by how helpful he was when it did not even require making a service call. Mr. Myers was very friendly and knowledgeable and I will certainly use his business and recommend Myers going forward. Sincerely, Jeff P"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Vandalia, homes built before the 1950s—especially those in the historic district—often feature knob-and-tube wiring, limited outlets, or thick plaster walls, which can make electrical work more complex. Watch for frequent breaker trips, two-prong outlets, or old fuse boxes. These signs suggest your home’s structure may need extra planning and care for safe, code-compliant electrical updates.

Helpful?

Electrical systems in Vandalia benefit from seasonal maintenance. Each spring, test outdoor outlets and inspect wiring after freeze-thaw cycles. In summer, check air conditioning connections and surge protectors. Fall is ideal for testing generators and heating system wiring, while winter calls for monitoring overhead lines for ice buildup. Annual professional inspections are especially important for homes over 25 years old in Vandalia’s changing climate.

Helpful?

For electrical projects in Vandalia, use copper THHN or THWN wire, which holds up well to local temperature changes. Install GFCI outlets in basements and garages to address moisture from seasonal flooding. Choose weather-resistant boxes for outdoor work, as Vandalia experiences strong storms. Upgrading to a 200-amp panel is wise for modern appliances. Local hardware stores in Vandalia carry supplies suited to the area’s climate.

Helpful?

In Vandalia, begin spring by testing GFCI outlets outdoors and checking sump pump wiring for moisture damage. During summer, monitor your electrical panel during heavy air conditioning use and inspect surge protectors. In fall, test generators, heating connections, and look for rodent damage in attics. Winter requires watching for ice on overhead lines and inspecting holiday lights. After storms, always check outdoor equipment and document any visible damage.

Helpful?

Completing electrical upgrades in Vandalia offers immediate safety improvements and supports today’s appliances. Over time, you’ll see increased property value, improved energy efficiency, and potentially lower insurance premiums. Modernizing wiring in historic homes preserves their character while meeting current safety standards, making your property more attractive to buyers who value both charm and updated systems in the Vandalia market.
