"The problem turned out to be a burned out small electric door switch. I believe the price was way too expensive for the service performed and the price of the door switch. What more can I say? It got done."

"John Sherlock and his wife Corrine called within 1/2 hour of looking for Lightning Rod installers. He was available and was over to talk with us within one hour. He sent all his credentials and licenses and insurance coverages of his business and they came over the next morning and completed the installation extremely fast. He gave a fantastic offer, and lifetime warranty coverage and will even come over and take down system when we replace the roof and place back up at no charge! His wife even saw some plants we had not put in the garden still sitting in containers, and offered and planted them in the spaces we wanted, just to help out. Very friendly, helpful, professional, extremely knowledgeable and even suggested adding Lakeland Electrics Surge Protector protection they provide to go along with the Lightning rods. Yes would have them again on any home anytime."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Effingham, watch for flickering lights during weather changes, frequent breaker trips, or outlets and switches that feel warm. Outdated home wiring, such as knob-and-tube or aluminum, and missing GFCI outlets in kitchens or bathrooms are red flags. If you notice burning odors or see moisture near electrical panels—especially after storms—schedule a professional electrical safety inspection to address potential hazards promptly.

Helpful?

When planning electrical projects in Effingham, factor in the region’s humid summers and cold winters, which can affect home wiring performance. Try to schedule major work outside of spring’s storm season to minimize delays. If your property is rural, be aware of unique service setups. Consider backup power solutions for outages and research available energy efficiency rebates in IL to enhance your investment in electrical upgrades.

Helpful?

Effingham offers a range of electrical contractors, including residential specialists for home wiring and upgrades, commercial electricians for business needs, and agricultural experts for farm properties. Some focus on smart home integration, solar panel connections, or generator installations—valuable for managing local storm risks. Emergency electricians are also available, ensuring you have support for urgent electrical safety concerns during severe weather.

Helpful?

To boost electrical safety in your Effingham home, install GFCI outlets in wet areas and use tamper-resistant outlets throughout. Add sliding covers and secure cords to prevent tripping or chewing. Place electrical components out of pets’ reach and use cord protectors. With Effingham’s frequent storms, consider whole-home surge protection and ensure basement wiring is moisture-resistant to keep your family and pets safe year-round.

Helpful?

After your electrical project in Effingham, confirm all work is complete and schedule a final inspection with the building department to ensure compliance. Organize your permits and inspection records for future reference. Carefully test each new circuit and GFCI outlet, then label your electrical panel clearly. Given Effingham’s seasonal storms, plan for annual electrical safety checks and inspect outdoor wiring after severe weather for ongoing protection.
