"1 word. Professionalism. These guys came out and rolled out the red carpet literally .. they laid down protection for my floors, and my walls. My contractor refused to bring in the appliances because he said there was no way anyone would get the refrigerator in without causing damages.. these guys simply said challenge accepted. Not a scratch on my floor or bump against myth walls or doors. Everything was installed and leveled to perfection, everything was tested before they left. I would recommend them to anyone, and I tell my friends and family to only use them. Thank you guys for all your help."

"John Sherlock and his wife Corrine called within 1/2 hour of looking for Lightning Rod installers. He was available and was over to talk with us within one hour. He sent all his credentials and licenses and insurance coverages of his business and they came over the next morning and completed the installation extremely fast. He gave a fantastic offer, and lifetime warranty coverage and will even come over and take down system when we replace the roof and place back up at no charge! His wife even saw some plants we had not put in the garden still sitting in containers, and offered and planted them in the spaces we wanted, just to help out. Very friendly, helpful, professional, extremely knowledgeable and even suggested adding Lakeland Electrics Surge Protector protection they provide to go along with the Lightning rods. Yes would have them again on any home anytime."

"Alex with Just Rite Electric came to my home because I needed a 240 V outlet ran and installed. Before he came I had a different electrician come and quote me. The first electrician was willing to do the job but failed to be honest about the danger due to the FPE Stab-Lok breaker I had. I decided to contact Just Rite Electric for a second opinion mainly to see the price difference. When Alex from Just Rite Electric came and saw the FPE Stab-Lok breaker I had in my home, he was 100% honest about the danger these could cause. He said he would not install what I needed because he was not willing to put my family and home in danger. He provided me with links that gave me information about how many fires, deaths and property damage these can cause. I was thankful for this information because I believe we all underestimate the fire hazards we may have in our homes. He was also personable, professional, informative and respectful. He definitely knows what he’s talking about. Just Rite Electric will be the first company I will refer if anyone ever asks for a referral."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Knowing if and when your circuit breaker is failing or faulty can prevent costly damage. If you notice any of the following signs, call a local electrician to help.

  • The breaker frequently trips

  • The breaker doesn't stay in the 'on' position or reset properly

  • You hear buzzing or humming noises coming from the breaker

  • There's discoloration around the breaker switch

  • There's a burning smell or visible signs of damage on the breaker

Before you start doing anything else, you must call your electric company to confirm their process. It is technically their meter that you’re moving, so there’s really no such thing as free rein. Moving the meter generally involves disconnecting power from the utility company, disconnecting the cables that run into your electrical panel, and dismounting the meter assembly. Once uninstalled, a handyperson will remount and reconnect the wiring in its new location.

Replacing the panel itself takes four to eight hours of work by a professional. However, if associated wiring and related components also require replacement, the labor time increases to 20 to 30 hours. Your electrician can speed up the process by bringing in a team of pros to handle ancillary tasks.

Upgrading your electrical panel is often worth the cost for safety, improved electrical performance, and potential long-term savings. A primary benefit is preventing electrical fires and other hazards from a malfunctioning panel, ensuring your household's safety. An upgraded panel also provides a steady flow of electricity, eliminating issues like flickering lights and frequently tripped breakers. It allows you to connect additional appliances without overloading the system, which is especially beneficial for older homes with 100-amp service that are prone to overheating. If you run large appliances like central air conditioning, heating systems, hot tubs, or saunas, you might consider upgrading to a 300- or 400-amp service to meet the higher electrical demand. Furthermore, an upgrade can lead to long-term savings on energy bills and potentially lower insurance costs.

No. Do not use a 14-gauge wire on a 20-amp outlet. A certified licensed electrician would know that the National Electrical Code (as per Section 240.4(D) subsection 3) requires 14-gauge wires to be used with a maximum amplitude of 15. Therefore, you should only use 12-gauge wires on 20-amp outlets.
