"The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

"

My wife and I have used World Painting several times over the last four years in two different houses.  The most recent project was a complete makeover of the outside of our home.  We consulted with the World Painting staff on the design (two tones) and the proper colors to use.  We are very happy with the outcomes; both the appearance and the quality of workmanship.

"Wedge Construction (Ken McCallon) was very prompt and courteous and the fact that he was finishing a project that we started ourselves did not deter him. He even took the time to correct some things we initially didn't do to his standard which was very much appreciated.  We explained our goal was to have the new aluminum railings  match an existing fence and he made it happen. Wedge Construction wasn't the lowest bid we received but he took my calls or promptly returned them.  Some of the other bidders were very slow to respond and I had to "chase" one bid down for almost two weeks.  I pretty much knew that contractor wasn't going to get the job but I always like 3-4 bids to make sure everyone understands the scope. As a rule I eliminate the lowest and highest bid and Wedge Construction was right in the middle.  His bid included purchasing materials, tearing out the old wood and removal.  His workmanship is guaranteed for two years which was another great advantage that no one else offered.

While Ken was working on the deck we had another small project going which required a new bathroom vanity to be set.  I asked him if he was interested in doing that for us and he took a look and gave me a very reasonable quote and did it the next day.  Once the onyx was set and plumbing installed he came back and trimmed out the bathroom as well.

I cannot say enough good words about Wedge Construction and will definitely be using him again when needed."

them on Google and after visiting their website we decided to give them a call.
They did everything they said and did a beautiful job right on budget! I recommended

Home Building questions, answered by experts

After finishing home building projects, schedule a final inspection to get your certificate of occupancy. You should also notify the county assessor about the improvements. Obtain a lien waiver from your contractor to protect your property. Monitor new concrete and masonry through the first Springfield winter for cracking. Finally, re-grade any disturbed landscaping before spring rains arrive to prevent drainage issues on your lot.

Helpful?

Functional home building projects involve structural, electrical, or plumbing changes that demand permits, mandatory inspections, and licensed professionals. These functional upgrades are highly season-dependent, as contractors avoid pouring concrete during cold Springfield winters. Conversely, cosmetic updates like painting or flooring require no permits and happen year-round. However, exterior cosmetic changes in local historic districts demand a special approval process before work begins.

Helpful?

Allowing downspouts to pool near your foundation accelerates structural movement in expansive IL clay soils, ruining recent home building work. Piling mulch against new siding traps moisture and degrades exterior materials. Inside, running whole-house humidifiers too high causes hidden condensation and rot. Always address small masonry cracks immediately, as freezing winter temperatures turn minor flaws into severe structural failures within a single season.

Helpful?

Expansive clay soils and flat lot topography create ongoing drainage challenges that complicate home building projects in Springfield. Properties with mature trees feature aggressive root systems that interfere with underground utility work. Additionally, older homes possess original clay tile sewer lines and galvanized steel pipes that demand full replacement. Finally, tight zoning setbacks and floodplain requirements force significant redesigns for additions or exterior structures.

Helpful?

Look for diagonal wall cracks or sticking doors, which indicate active foundation movement in expansive IL clay soils. Older properties feature balloon-frame construction, knob-and-tube wiring, or crawl space foundations, requiring specialized upgrades during home building projects. Homes built before 1980 present asbestos or lead paint risks. Always hire certified specialists to safely manage these hazardous materials before starting any structural work on your property.
