"I wanted a diseased pine tree cut down and the stump removed. Ben came out very quickly and gave me an estimate. He said they would be out the next day, but it rained. They came out the day after that and took down the tree and took out the stump. Great clean up job. Unfortunately, they cut the electric line to the lights on the driveway while they were cutting out the stump. Ben had his electricians come out and repair the cut line and got the lights working. Great customer service!"

"I met and dealt with Richard while I was having my bardominium built in 2023. The concrete he pored for the 64x40 was perfect. He helped me out in many other ways on his own time on the weekends. I am happy that he has acquired the honest family business his dad worked so hard to make successful, and that Richard has been a part of since a very young age."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

When planning asphalt paving in Springfield, consider the area’s clay soil, which expands and contracts and requires thorough base preparation. Schedule work during warmer months for best results. Review neighborhood guidelines, confirm property lines, and check for any underground utilities before starting. Also, plan for effective drainage and snow removal, as Springfield’s flat landscape and heavy rainfall can impact long-term pavement durability.

Helpful?

In Springfield, properties with mature trees, steep driveways, or limited access can complicate asphalt paving. Homes with basements need careful grading to prevent water from seeping toward the foundation. Watch for hidden obstacles like old concrete or unstable soil, especially near rivers. Shared driveways or homes in historic areas may also require extra planning to meet local guidelines and avoid future issues.

Helpful?

In Springfield, quality asphalt paving is evident when the surface is smooth, free of visible seams or dips, and edges are sharply defined. The pavement should be evenly compacted to a minimum thickness of 2–3 inches and sloped slightly to direct water away from structures. Consistent color, no loose gravel, and proper drainage after rain are strong signs the job was done right.

Helpful?

In Springfield, early warning signs include fine cracks that widen over time, water pooling in low spots, or edges beginning to crumble. If you notice soft areas underfoot, faded patches, or weeds pushing through, these can quickly escalate due to the region’s freeze-thaw cycles. Addressing these minor concerns promptly can help prevent more extensive base or drainage problems.

Helpful?

In Springfield, if you see widespread cracking in patterns resembling alligator skin, repeated patchwork, or areas where water doesn’t drain, it may be time to redo the asphalt paving. Additional signs include edges breaking away, deep stains, or persistent soft spots. If the surface is deteriorating well before the typical 10–15 year lifespan, underlying base or drainage issues likely need to be addressed.
