Small jobs welcome

"Mr. Handyman was wonderful! Not only was the clearing done perfectly and safely, but under the time quoted. Without Mr. Handyman, I could not have made it out of my home for days! I am not looking forward to another storm, but I feel a lot safer that I have someone to help me. I have had terrible experiences with contractors in the past, and I won’t hesitate to call Mr. Handyman."

"I used H&F exteriors to redo the complete outside of my home. From top to bottom. My windows were the original windows to the home, now that it is summer time, my AC Unit barely runs, no where near to what it use to. From the window installers, to the guys on the roof during the hot day, and the siding guys. The entire team did a great job. I worked with Jill and she was easy to work with. Highly recommended."

"We are extremely happy with how our new windows and new front door turned out. After some unexpected challenges with the way our home was built, our installation crew quickly and efficiently adapted to make sure our windows and door were installed with expert care. Every time we see our new beautiful picture window we are left breathless! And our beautiful front door is the perfect upgrade for the look of our home. Thank you RBA!"

"No matter what problem you have, Clint is the man for the job! He not only fixed the plumbing issues I discovered during a remodel but was able to fix the electrical issues, flooring problems, install the cabinets, cut and grout backsplash tile, and fix a handful of minor issues that came up along the way. Clint is on time, dependable, courteous and respectful of your property - he even cleans up afterwards! I could not have completed this project without Clint Hatcher and highly recommend him to anyone who needs work done - you will not be disappointed!!"

"I can’t recommend Joe enough. After dealing with another contractor for 8 months who kept delaying just my roof and siding, Joe came in and completely turned things around. From signing with him to having the work fully completed was less than a month—and that included not only my roof and siding, but also a full master bathroom and master bedroom renovation, screen door replacements, all done in about 10 days. The before-and-after difference is incredible. My home went from stressful and outdated to feeling completely refreshed. Joe oversaw the entire project, paid close attention to every detail, and made sure everything was done right. Nothing felt rushed, even with the fast timeline. If you want someone reliable, efficient, and truly invested in quality work, Joe is the one. I would hire him again without hesitation."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

Window screen repair costs an average of $310, with a typical range of $100 to $480. The final price depends on several factors, including the window size, accessibility, screen type, whether the frame needs replacement, and especially the screen material.

The cost of window screen materials varies widely based on durability and features:

  • Fiberglass: $35–$200

  • Aluminum: $50–$300

  • Copper: $90–$850

  • Stainless Steel: $45–$400

  • Brass: $100–$900

  • Solar: $55–$850

  • Security: $100–$1,000

  • Vinyl: $25–$120

Costs also differ by screen type. For instance, a prefabricated screen might cost only $40, moveable screens typically run $25 to $75, and retractable screens range from $300 to $900. To save money, you can choose more affordable materials like vinyl or fiberglass, opt to rescreen instead of replacing the entire frame, and have multiple screens repaired at once to reduce labor costs.

If your door has interchangeable inserts, you’ll likely want to swap the glass out for a screen during the summer months. The process to do so will vary by door, but you’ll follow these general steps: First, use a flathead screwdriver to pop out the retainer strips—the plastic strips running down both long (and sometimes all four) sides of the door. Then gently pull them out by hand. Carefully remove the glass insert from the door and replace it with the screen. Finally, push the plastic retainer strips back into place, working from top to bottom.

If you’d rather repair your screen door mesh than replace it, you can patch it. Purchase a mesh patch for screen doors with small holes or tears, especially if the mesh is pretty new. Hardware stores and websites sell mesh patches that are easy to apply with an adhesive or a warm hair dryer. Keep in mind that repairs won’t look as aesthetically pleasing in most cases as a full replacement.

The screen material you choose depends on your needs. Here are some differences to consider:

  • Fiberglass is the least expensive but needs replacing more often.

  • Aluminum suits almost any job and doesn’t stretch as easily as fiberglass.

  • Pet-resistant screens are more expensive than fiberglass or aluminum, but they’re also wind and weather-resistant.

  • Metal screens, like stainless steel, are the most expensive material for rescreening your porch or sunroom. However, they last for years and are golf ball-resistant.

Many kinds of window screens, such as solar screens, are designed to reduce the amount of harmful ultraviolet rays that pass through them and enter your home. The materials typically have UV-blocking properties. However, they may not completely eliminate all UV rays from passing through your home. Different window screens are designed for different purposes, and not all are designed to block or reduce UV rays. Do your research to make sure you’re getting the type of window screen to suit your needs.
