"I can’t believe how happy I am to have chosen (and WAITED FOR!) Universal Windows Direct! It took 16 weeks from signing the contract, to getting the patio door and window made at the factory, to scheduling the install. Today was installation day. "Very professional and at the same time approachable. After looking at pictures of hole in siding and wall, and in person, was able to give a detailed estimate that made complete sense. Agreed with estimate and signed contract. Came out within a week and fixed the issue. Did not need to be home for any of it! Huge plus! Looks great. Then gently pull them out by hand. Carefully remove the glass insert from the door and replace it with the screen. Finally, push the plastic retainer strips back into place, working from top to bottom.

The most affordable way to screen in a porch is to add a base track system to an existing wooden frame. The whole process should cost around $2,000 for supplies, depending on the size of your porch. It’s much pricier to build a screened-in porch or sunroom from scratch—and you’ll probably need to hire a contractor for a project like that.

Solar screens are low-maintenance but benefit from occasional cleaning with mild soap and water. Avoid using harsh chemicals or pressure washing, as these can damage the mesh. Inspect screens annually for tears or loose frames to maintain performance. In dusty or coastal areas, more frequent cleaning may be necessary to prevent buildup.

There are different types of screen materials available when purchasing a screen door, but the two main options are fiberglass and aluminum. Fiberglass is lightweight and affordable, but can stretch out, so it needs to be replaced more often. Aluminum has a higher upfront cost, but is more sturdy. Aluminum can be more difficult to install, even if you know how to replace screen door mesh.
