"I recently had a concrete patio, steps, and a shed pad installed and couldn’t be happier with the result. From start to finish, the team was prompt and professional, showing up on time and ready to work. Their communication was excellent—we always knew what to expect and when. Once they got started, the crew worked quickly and efficiently, finishing the job in far less time than I expected without cutting corners on quality. The pricing was also very competitive compared to other quotes I received. Overall, I am very pleased with the results and would absolutely use them again for future project. My neighbor already asked for their number lol."

Brick paver and concrete are beautiful additions to any property. However many fall into disrepair over the years and lose their once lustrous look. At JV Hardscape restoration we aim to bring that glorious pristine look back to your hardscape. Be it brick pavers, aggregate, or concrete our renewal process will bring out its best. Our service is often provided over two work days. The first day consists of power washing the area including the use of cleaner to help lift stains. On the second day we come back out, address any repairs than need to be done such as leveling bricks before pushing in poly sand, compacting if needed, and spraying sealer. 10 years ago I started out working as a patio reatoration specialist at a company in the northwest suburbs. I have since built upon that experience and have started a family run business aiming to being my decade of experience to you at a price that doesnt break the bank.

"Dan was quick to respond to our call. He set up our appointment within a week of our initial call. Although he had help, Dan was there to supervise the job. We are thrilled with the work! Our stamped concrete patio was in desperate need of cleaning and resealing. It really looks fantastic! Dan is very professional, personable, AND came in under his original quote!! We will definitely use A Touch of Color again!"

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Most retaining wall installations can be finished in one to three weeks, but the timeline varies based on factors like wall size and material. The local climate and major weather events, such as storms or flooding, can also extend the project's timeline, as can any holds ups in the permitting process.

Poured concrete is often the cheapest material for a retaining wall, costing around $6 to $8 per square foot. Other budget-friendly options include vinyl and landscaping timbers, which range from $10 to $15 per square foot; landscaping timbers are particularly well-suited for DIY projects. Untreated timber and railroad ties are a step up in price, starting at $15 to $25 per square foot. Natural stones can also be a cost-effective choice if you can source them from your own property, but they can be expensive to purchase. High-end materials like steel are typically the most expensive but offer superior durability and aesthetics.

Each design is different, so we can’t say definitively if you’ll need a dedicated drainage system in place for a two-foot retaining wall. However, you can likely skip the drainage, as this project is typically served for walls that are 4 feet tall or more. Even with a relatively low wall, consider drainage if you are building on top of clay or poor-draining soil types or if there are buried water sources nearby, like a well used for other outdoor garden projects.

With foundation walls, the slab on grade and force at the top of the wall is resisted by flooring. With retaining walls, the force at the top of the wall is not resisted.
