My name is Carson Thrasher. I’ve grown up around the Sullivan area and this is home. I have been around the electrical field for since 2018 when I graduated college. I’ve worked as an electrical engineer for a few years and started my business in 2023. I quit my job in November of ‘25 and am working the business full time. I’m a hardworking person who doesn’t like to leave projects half finished or looking sloppy, I can be a bit of a perfectionist. I’ve always fixed and built almost everything I needed myself and I take pride in being self sufficient. I’ve been an electrician for a year and half now and before that I was fabricating aerators for private residences. I have a wife and two children, so I can handle the chaos of a whole house remodel even if you decide to alter any details halfway through.

"Prompt response to my request for service, great communication...very easy and pleasant to deal with...showed me what needed to be repaired and inspected other things to make sure that they were seemingly all ok. I personally am not a big fan of service fees that are not then absorbed or offset with work that is done, but to be fair as well, it is not uncommon either. I did appreciate the communication and quality of work done, and his knowledge of my hot tub (and just with respect to hot tubs in general) was evident."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

No, you don’t need to hire an electrician to install your garage door opener. Garage door professionals have the skills and expertise to install the wiring necessary to connect the opener to your home’s wiring system. When hiring a local garage door professional to install your system, make sure the opener task is included in the list of provided services.

No, outdoor outlets are not required to be on a separate circuit. However, you should always defer to local electrical codes when making decisions about how to install your new outlet. An experienced local electrician will be able to inform you of all codes and requirements in place at your home.

Unless you have prior electrical experience, it’s best to hire a professional to install your new thermostat for you. Improper installation can damage wiring, lead to a blown fuse, and more.

The standard copper wire gauge to use with any 30-amp circuit is a 10-gauge wire. The National Electric Code specifies a 10-gauge wire with appliances like water heaters running on 30 amps. If you try to use a smaller gauge wire, such as a 12 gauge, with a 30-amp breaker, you run the risk of the wire overheating and melting or causing a fire. Because of the safety hazards, the gauge of the wire is not an area to try to cut costs when connecting a 30-amp breaker to a water heater.

While circuit breakers are designed to be reset after tripping, there isn't a strict countdown to when they will fail. The primary danger lies in a breaker tripping multiple times in a short period without allowing the components to cool down. Theoretically, a standard breaker might handle around 50 trips caused by simple overloading. However, this number can be much lower in practice. For instance, a high-current fault could damage a breaker to the point that it needs replacement after only two resets. Repeatedly resetting a breaker that trips frequently exacerbates the underlying problem by causing the electrical components, wires, and the breaker itself to overheat. This can lead to permanent damage, cause the breaker to trip unnecessarily in the future, and increase the risk of an electrical fire. If a breaker trips every few minutes, you should leave it in the 'off' position and call a qualified electrician for an inspection.
