"Mr. Jim Gorman who is the owner of the business called me back within a half hour of my email posting. He visited my home 3 days later, inspected things, and told me what the approximate cost would be. He and his helper then installed an entire lightning protection system on both my house and a back garage/storage area. He did things exactly as I wanted in every way. Also threw in a free weathervane which increased the beauty of my home. I would have no objection to recommending this gentleman and his company to anyone who is in need of a competently installed lightning protection system for their home/property. MID-AMERICA LIGHTNING RODS is one fine company run by a man who cares about doing good work according to the latest safety codes etc. Having lost my previous retirement home to lightning, it was very important to me to get this job done and quickly because the thunderstorm season is upon us and with the climate change, those storms are very wicked, especially here out in the country where i live!"

I’m a hardworking person who doesn’t like to leave projects half finished or looking sloppy, I can be a bit of a perfectionist. I’ve always fixed and built almost everything I needed myself and I take pride in being self sufficient. I’ve been an electrician for a year and half now and before that I was fabricating aerators for private residences. I have a wife and two children, so I can handle the chaos of a whole house remodel even if you decide to alter any details halfway through.

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Establishing a seasonal inspection routine in Olney helps keep your electrical system safe. In spring, inspect outdoor outlets and GFCIs for winter damage. Summer is ideal for checking your electrical panel and outdoor lighting, especially if you use air conditioning. In fall, test backup power sources and inspect wiring before heating season. Winter calls for checking for moisture or ice buildup in panels and exterior outlets.

Helpful?

Overloading circuits, especially in homes with older wiring, can strain your electrical system in Olney. Ignoring flickering lights or tripped breakers may signal deeper issues. Using extension cords as permanent wiring increases fire risk. Humid summers and frequent storms can cause corrosion, so it’s important to regularly check outdoor outlets and protect them from moisture to extend the life of your electrical work.

Helpful?

Combining electrical work with other home upgrades in Olney can reduce disruption and help ensure all systems meet current safety codes. For example, updating wiring during a kitchen remodel or when installing new HVAC equipment can streamline permit approvals and inspections. Coordinating electrical improvements with roofing or insulation upgrades also helps protect your investment and minimizes the need for repeat contractor visits.

Helpful?

In Olney, you’ll find several types of electrical contractors. Full-service electrical contractors handle residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Residential specialists focus on home wiring, code compliance, and upgrades for older houses. Commercial electricians serve businesses and agricultural operations. Emergency repair contractors address storm or outage issues, while specialty pros handle smart home systems, solar installations, EV charging stations, and landscape lighting throughout Richland County.

Helpful?

In Olney, the timeline for electrical projects depends on the scope and the age of your home. Panel upgrades usually take one to two days, while whole-house rewiring in older properties may require three to seven days. Simple tasks like outlet or switch installation are often completed in a few hours. Permit processing and winter weather can sometimes extend these timelines by several days.
