"My home is old, with small, narrow closets. The existing closet made my clothes scream in agony, and it barely fit half of my attire. Cynthia came to my home as a designer, and it was clear she was very experienced. She was really direct about what could be done with my limited space and configuration. I was excited for anything different, to be honest!! We spent a lot of time discussing closet options, and by the end of the day, she had already sent me renderings and ideas. The price was fantastic, and I got it scheduled right away. I ripped up my existing closets, patched, and repainted, and Dan came a few weeks later to install everything. He was really professional and friendly. My closets look amazing. I am able to put all of my clothes in these two closets, including all of my summer clothes. No more storage of winter/summer items! They look amazing, and I truly feel they added to the value of my home. Everything is bright and fresh and I just could not be happier. Pricing was fantastic in my mind. I cannot recommend this company enough."

"Working with Chicagoland Home Products for my closets has been an excellent experience. We initially did four shelving projects with them a few years ago. They did such an excellent job and the closets and pantry have held up beautifully, so it was a no-brainer to have them complete my primary bedroom walk-in closet this month. Tammy is a pro and probably the nicest person you’ll ever meet! She remembered exactly who I was, even after a few years, and pulled up the previous design for my primary closet. We tweaked a few things to ensure I was happy and booked the install. The installers showed up on time, wore shoe covers without me asking, were very friendly, and completed my closet perfectly. I love it! I plan on working with Chicagoland Home Products in the future and recommend them to everyone."

"Ray came out to replace my wooden stairs and did a wonderful job plus he cleaned up all the garbage. Ray gave me a reasonable price. I would definitely say that Ray is honest, efficient, and takes pride in his work. I had a wonderfully honest experience. Would recommend him to anyone needing carpentry work."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Yes, many repair services include blade sharpening as part of the maintenance package.

If you don’t have a power saw with a blade where you can adjust the angle, you could use a miter box and hand saw to make the cuts. The miter box contains wide slots to support the piece of baseboard and other narrow slots to accommodate the blade of the hand saw. However, it’s tough to make non-standard cuts beyond 30 or 45 degrees when using a miter box.

While you may have heard people use millwork and carpentry interchangeably, they aren’t the same. Millwork is a type of carpentry, which means that carpentry isn’t always millwork. You can tell millwork apart from other types of carpentry because it’s manufactured at a mill. Notably, casework is also confused with millwork. Casework is different because it refers to boxes like cabinets and bookshelves.

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.

General contractors use subcontractors to complete specific parts of a construction project. For example, a general contractor might have construction experience but need a subcontractor to install plumbing lines in a new home.
