My name is Cody Dorris and I can do just about anything but HVAC services including but not limited to flooring, carpentry, drywall, plumbing, electrical, cabinetry, siding, installation of doors and windows, painting, etc. I have been doing this off and on for about 10 years but have just been doing it full time again within the last year. I am very detail oriented when it comes to my work and will not settle for anything less than perfect.

"Finley Flooring LLC is currently in bankruptcy in the United States District Court of Southern Illinois case # 23-30193. June 2022 purchased flooring materials with a credit card down payment. Rachel (store manager) said the floor was scheduled to arrive on July 2022, no contact, no show. August 2022 no contact, no show two separate dates. October 2022 no contact, no show. November 2022 flooring arrived/sent to house to acclimate. December 2022 flooring install to begin 9am. No contact no show. Flooring installer arrived midday. Installation began once existing hardwood floor and ceramic tile was removed. No preparation to the subfloor, vinyl plank floor had to be pulled up and reinstalled three separate times. I called Finley Flooring asking to speak with Anthony (owner) was told he was unavailable. I said he will need to see the damage to the vinyl plank floor and failure to follow flooring instruction for preparation to install vinyl plank. Anthony came to our residence observed the damage to the floor. I explained that it was being installed without preparation to the subfloor or proper adherence to the instructions for installation. I attempted to find a suitable replacement floor from Finley Flooring. Having looked at several different options provided by Finley Flooring non of which were suitable, I’d asked Finley Flooring for a refund. Anthony said he would not do that because the floor had no manufacturer defects. I was able to find a suitable floor that Finley Flooring did not carry, showed it to Anthony and he said he would be able to get that floor for a upgraded cost. (Went from a 12 to 20 millimeter floor). Finley Flooring and I agreed to the upgrade price signed a second contract and I proved the agreed upon increased cost. Anthony said he’d order the new floor on the day we agreed. On January 2023 Finley Flooring stated the floor was ordered. February 2023 was advised by Rachel the floor was not in and she would keep me updated and If i had any questions to call. March 2023 Rachel called and said the floor would be in by the end of the month. At the end of March 2023 no contact from Anthony or Rachel or Finley Flooring. I called and emailed with no response from Anthony or Rachel or Finley Flooring. Rachel called in April 2023 stated the floor would be in on May 17, 2023 and installation would begin on May 22, 2023. Rachel called May 16, 2023 stated that Anthony and Finley Flooring LLC 908 Broadway Suite 812 Highland, IL. had declared bankruptcy. I would not be receiving my contract agreed upon floor nor would it be installed, nor receive a refund. In the course of approximately one year I had contracted twice with Finley Flooring to purchase and install flooring. Through out this time the communication with Anthony, Rachel and Finley Floor was abysmal. Finley Flooring failed to adhere to agreed upon legal contract. Finley Flooring is currently under Chapter 11 bankruptcy they are trying to absolve themselves from honoring any contracts leaving consumers with bare floors , exposed tack strip, damaged walls where their installers pulled the base boards ,leaving most broken. I feel they have been using the funds proved for materials to pay on other debts. I feel at the least this is consumer fraud, theft of services. Consumer beware Owner Anthony/Rachel and Finley Flooring LLC Highland, IL. Is not a company I would recommend to anyone"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Popular options include ceramic, porcelain, stone, and glass tiles, chosen based on the area (bathroom, kitchen) and desired aesthetic.

It’s easiest to start from an edge as it gives you a straight line. A problem may arise if your edge doesn’t line up perfectly, in which case it’s best to start from the center. Some think that starting tile from the center adds a focal point in the center of the hearth.

You can, in theory, tile your fireplace hearth with most tiles. However just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. For example, it’s much better to use unglazed tiles because glazed tiles are more resistant to cracking under extreme heat. Porcelain is more heat-resistant than ceramic, but you can still design the hearth as you like by putting the most heat-resistant tiles directly under the fire and, if it matches your style, add more decorative tiles further from the center of the fire.

Like glass tiles, you will not need to seal most porcelain tiles, particularly if the porcelain is already glazed. It depends on quality. Porcelain is very water resistant, but it is not 100% waterproof. To avoid staining, some homeowners use a penetrating sealer. It is also a good idea to seal your grout. Unless you use epoxy grout, grout is very porous and can harbor bacteria, mold, and mildew.

Installing kitchen countertop tiles on a mold and moisture-resistant cement backer board is one of the best options. When fitted correctly on top of a plywood base, it’s stable and long-lasting. Old-fashioned cement board is economical, cuts neatly and easily with a circular or jigsaw, and screws into plywood without any difficulty.
