"Andrew did a great job in removing and installing three interior door frames, doors and casing. He explained everything that he was going to be doing pre job start and answered my questions along the way. When he was finished the installed doors/frames and casings looked great and he cleaned the work areas very well. I would recommend him highly for quotes and work"

"I have a metal framed awing over my patio with a canvas cover. It is like the kind that you would see at a bar or restaurant. Thomas and his crew have been helping me for years now, installing the cover in the spring and taking it down in the fall. They have been great to work with. Very timely and professional."

"Art gave me a quote for only what I needed. He did not try to sell me on a new deck but said he would be able to repair and replace only what was needed. His price was very reasonable. Art came to the jobsite by himself. He would not let me help at all. He was professional, finished the job when he said he would and cleaned everything up and took garbage away. Very nice guy and would hire him again if ever I need him."

"I told him the chores that I was wanting to be rectified. These were lights, fan in two bathrooms. Decisions for ceiling lights, under the counter lights updated, using existing cut spaces to fit the updated lighting. Checked all electrical outlets for appropriate wiring. Same with existing ceiling fans, wiring appropriately. Sanded, primed and painted the ceiling joists that were not taped but caulked incorrectly by a previous handyman. Discussed fixing many cracks in the ceiling throughout the open concept for 3 rooms. He sent me an itemized quote for all items . Also redid 5 ceiling lights with new lighting electric boxes. Will be discussing a choice of floor for a home on a slab. His work is thoughtful, compliant for coded work. He is nice, respectful, and descriptive to his work status and work status. I will be hiring him again when I need things to be done. Excellent worker ethic. Suzi Sxxxxx Homeowner"

"Drywall Repair and Framing a Wall: We hired Jim to fix a hole in our ceiling which was caused by a water leak and to rework a closet in one of our bedrooms. He gave us an estimate on a Monday, completed the work on Tuesday and Wednesday. His work was impeccable. You cannot tell where our ceiling was repaired. The closet work was exceptional with great care to ensure it matched existing. He was very, very clean and his attention to detail was second to none. Would hire him again without hesitation."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

You may need a permit to install your window seat. Even though it's an indoor modification, some municipalities require permits for any built-ins added to homes. Check with your carpenter or, if you're DIY-ing, do some research on your city's requirements.

There are both temporary and permanent ways to enclose a carport. If you’re looking to enclose your carport for the winter, a canvas enclosure could do the trick. It won’t be as protective as a permanent structure, but it can offer some protection from elements like snow, rain, and wind. For a permanent enclosure, you can add extra walls, add a new vertical roof, or a lean-to addition on one side of the structure.

When hanging a door frame, it’s recommended that you use screws, not nails. Screws are more secure, easier to tighten, and easier to remove if you need to adjust the frame. On average, the cost to replace a door frame is about $400, but you can save on labor costs if you’re confident in your ability to DIY the project.

It’s best to use two screws to secure deck boards into every joist. Securing the boards to every joist makes the deck more structurally sound, while using two screws on the outer sides of the boards can help prevent warping and cupping.

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.
