"Felmar tree service was incredible! They took down a 50 foot tree in less than 3 hours. Very professional. They cleaned up as if it never happened. I would definitely hire them again and would encourage others to contact them. Great job!"

"Michael was fantastic. He was great at communicating and called me back in a timely manor after I contacted the company. He took his time when he stopped over for the quote and explained what he would do and why. He answered every question and his work crew was very polite, friendly and fast. I would highly recommend hiring them for any of your tree servicing needs."

"Excellence with Perfection is the only way that I can describe their service. Armando & his crew of four, working in harmony, removed a 24+ tree height, which consisted of two very large and tall limbs, in a very timely manner. BTR leaves your lawn very, very clean with the exception that your project is now completed ( no more tree or trees ). Their schedule, pricing and customer service is beyond reproach. My recommendation, call BTR for your next tree removal, you will not be disappointed."

"ALL SERVICE CALLS exceeded our expectations & provided excellent & prompt work at our home. From the timely, prompt & fair estimate to setting an appointment within 2 days, we were pleased with their labor. The team arrived on Thursday early & completed the work of clearing our trees & overgrowth within 4 hours. They also hauled away the debris. I plan to hire them again as for a few other projects as trees/landscaping is just one aspect of what they do. SIMPLY AWESOME. HIGHLY RECOMMEND ALL SERVICE CALLS LLC."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Trimming a tree can take anywhere from just two hours to a full day, depending on the age of the tree, the number of trees, and the species. Young trees are generally easier to trim, as their branches are often thinner in diameter and easier to reach compared to mature trees. They also tend to be healthier. If you haven’t trimmed your trees before or it’s been a while, the process could take even longer.

You may be looking to identify maple trees to use for home improvement projects. In that case, you can tell hard maples by looking at their leaves. Leaves will have a U-shaped dip, or sinus, between the points, or lobes, of the leaves. Leaves of soft maples tend to have V-shaped sinuses.

If you already have the cut wood in front of you, look for a light, uniform color to identify hard maple wood and check for variations of red, gray, or brown streaks and an overall darker color in soft maple wood.

Generally speaking, you’ll want to avoid flush cuts, which are cuts made as extremely close to the trunk or main branch. These cuts can weaken your tree, lower its natural defense mechanisms, and even cause decay. You’ll also want to avoid tree topping, which is the total removal of the leader and upper main branches of a tree.

Most pros will advise against either of these methods, which is why hiring a pro is often the best choice when it comes to tree trimming.

If you want to take your tree-planting hobby beyond your outdoor space, here are a few great ways to do it:

  • Encourage your neighbors to participate in the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program, which has a four-step framework that helps communities grow and maintain their own tree cover.

  • Support businesses that plant trees.

  • Lobby your local government to plant more trees around your community.

  • Donate to a tree-planting charity.

In most cases, leaving tree roots underground is not a problem if the stump has been removed or ground below the soil. However, some larger roots may decompose, leaving dents in your soil. Additionally, some aggressive trees, including willows, oaks, elms, maples, and poplars may grow back from roots. Large aggressive trees with established root systems are more likely to grow back.
