HPMillwork is here to help you with your Contractor, Commercial and Home Owner needs. We specialize in Windows, Molding, Door replacement, and much more. Feel free to set up a consultation to see what else we have to offer. (Quotes and Consultations are free)

"Stan spent 15 minutes talking to me about this project, knowing that I would not use his services. We are preparing to sell, so we were looking for something low cost. He gave me advice about code which will guide my ultimate decision. He is an honest man who took the time with me to help me make a good decision even though he knew I wanted a shorter term, less costly solution than he could offer. If you deal with him, I am sure you will be treated fairly and honestly."

We may be new to Angie's List, but we are NOT NEW in delivering true expertise, innovation and craftsmanship for over 25 years. We’re fast becoming the LEADERS in residential structural beam renovation, steel beam installation as well as interior and exterior structural framing repair!!

"If only ALL contractors and tradespeople were as good as this team. Great communication, follow through, honest, and ON TIME. Unheard of with most contractors these days. We were looking to replace our wood basement beam and posts with steel so scheduled Mark to come out and inspect. He listened to my concerns, looked at our property, and said while he would love our business recommended we save our money or use it elsewhere. Everything appears to be very structurally sound, great material, and normal. If we ever need work or if I hear of anyone that does, Mark and Jim are my first and only call."

We are a full service cabinetry shop servicing the Chicagoland area.

"We hired Wheatland to refinish our kitchen cabinets – fine cherry wood that had just become scratched and faded over time. Other than a slower-than-expected start date, we are extremely pleased with their work. All their personnel were quite courteous, and obviously experienced professionals – most notably, Ross. The lengths they went to prepare and protect the kitchen were amazing. Their cleanliness was unmatched by any contractor we have retained previously – limiting all of the dust to a tightly sealed area, and diligently cleaning up every night. Most importantly, the end results met all our expectations. Yes, we would certainly hire them again, and we strongly recommend them to anybody with similar needs."

FAQs for contractor service projects in Morton Grove, IL

Generally, general contractors charge between $50 and $150 hourly, though not every contractor charges by the hour. If charging based on the project, you can expect a markup of 10% to 20% of the construction cost. You can expect to pay between $300 and $500 daily if charged by the day.

General contractors are the ones that coordinate home construction projects. They are in charge of the day-to-day oversight of the subcontractors to ensure that the project is completed on time and to resolve problems as they arise. General contractors:

  • Complete pre-construction planning, both with the customer and crew

  • Provide realistic cost estimates

  • Develop construction timelines

  • Ensure deadlines are met

  • Acquire permits as needed

  • Purchase supplies and materials

Before hiring a general contractor for your home project, it’s a great idea to write down a list of questions to discuss with each prospect. Some example questions to get you started include:

  • Which types of insurance do you carry?

  • Can you provide a list of references?

  • What is the expected timeline for this project?

  • How will my project be supervised?

  • Will you hire subcontractors for the job?

  • What is the best way to communicate changes?

  • Will you obtain all of the required building permits?

While city and state laws vary on general contractor licensing requirements, hiring an unlicensed general contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines for your area.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

Yes, most general contractors require a down payment for project completion. A reasonable down payment for a contractor is 10% to 25% of the total project cost, though that will vary based on project size and location. The down payment helps cover the upfront costs of materials and permits and helps ensure payment for the project at hand.
