"Chicagoland Precision Painting came by and looked at the job. Jason Cortez was good, he came by. He was very attentive and called me back later to check how things were. He was very flexible. I would have hired him if I hadn't done the work myself. He was prompt and explained everything in detail."

"It was great! I can't say enough good things about Carlos. I had to reschedule the work twice, and each time it was "no problem". They showed up on time and worked quickly without sacrificing quality. On top of that, there was a problem with some wood door frames that had had cracking paint. Carlos' crew painted them and had the same problem. Carlos came out himself and scraped and sanded the frames BY HAND, and painted them again, correctly. I can't say enough good things about Carlos Professional painter. A terrific painter and a really good person!"

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

Painting over wallpaper is an efficient way to cover it if it’s in decent shape. Before painting over wallpaper, make sure the surface is clean and smooth. You may have to remove minor problem areas, such as lifted seams or small peels, with a sheetrock knife or putty knife. Add a latex- or oil-based primer to keep moisture at bay before painting. You’ll likely need two coats of paint to cover the area.

Textured or patterned vinyl wallpaper designs are the best option for hiding imperfections. Embossed designs or faux finishes like brick, wood, or linen textures are especially effective at camouflaging dents, cracks, or uneven surfaces. Avoid smooth, shiny finishes, as they can highlight flaws rather than conceal them.

It is less costly to paint than wallpaper when you only consider the upfront cost. Wallpaper costs $320 to $820 when applied by a pro, while paint only costs $200 to $700 per room. However, when comparing wallpaper versus paint, consider the long-term as well. Wallpaper can save you money over time since it has a much longer life span than paint.

While some people are confident in their ability to replace concrete by drilling out the broken pieces and replacing them with bagged concrete, it’s possible to run into snags that make hiring a professional worth it. Trying to level concrete slabs can require special equipment, which can be pricey to rent and tough to operate. It's also crucial to contact your town's municipal office to ensure you are allowed to take on the project without a permit.

Accent walls can feel out of place or distracting if not well designed. Accent walls that don’t fit in with a room’s style can feel jarring or overpowering. Some accent wall styles can also feel dated, but fortunately, it’s easier to update a single wall than an entire room.
