"Our house remodel started Jan. 25 with the promise of 1 to 2 weeks due to our smaller size home. This was even after we added a few things along the way. Overall, Jim has terrible communication! We went over a week without hearing anything about our house. We ended up paying for labor that wasn't actually done which he admitted to. There are knicks in the flooring, trim, and baseboards. I have spent a lot of time scraping paint off of the brand new floors. Things that weren't broken ended up broken. They only painted half the ceiling and used two different white paints so the walls don't look complete. While some of the workers did what they could to help with communication and completion of the project, Jim was not great to work with. Thank you to Mary and Matt for keeping in contact after not hearing from Jim for over week! When we did hear from Jim, it was to promise the house would be done tomorrow (this happened at least four different times). There was always some excuse. The original timeline was one to two weeks...it's been a month and the house still isn't done 100%. We do NOT recommend working with Jim. Even after contacting him about these issues, he will not respond."

There isn't a winner when comparing expanding foam versus concrete for fence posts. Both have benefits and drawbacks, depending on your budget and priorities. Concrete is more affordable and durable than expanding foam, yet it is harder to work with and takes longer to cure. 

Yes, masonry is more expensive than concrete because the labor is much more involved. With masonry, your expert will build your project from the ground up, one piece at a time, ensuring they use the proper amount of mortar or grout during construction and keeping the project level or plumb. Pouring concrete can also be labor-intensive, but it’s a bit less involved. It requires building a mold, pouring the concrete, and letting it cure. The less intensive labor makes concrete a more affordable option in most cases.

Concrete dries faster in the heat than in the cold, but when concrete cures too fast, it can cause weak concrete. It’s best to pour concrete when temperatures are between 50 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit, watering it five to 10 times per day for seven days (unless you pour concrete in the winter). Slower cure times, such as when pouring concrete in cold weather, can cause strong concrete, but you need to monitor the temperature drop and moisture levels. Avoid pouring concrete when temperatures are below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Unfortunately, concrete cracks happen, so there’s no surefire way to avoid them long-term. To slow down the cracking, apply a sealant every two to three years and use sand rather than salt to melt snow or ice. Using salt speeds up the freeze-thaw cycle, which may increase the likelihood of cracking. Additionally, keep vehicles and heavy machinery off of your concrete, as the weight can lead to more cracking.

Generally speaking, stain is a better option for concrete because it soaks into the surface and won’t get worn away like a topical paint will. Painting concrete increases the risk that moisture will get trapped beneath the top layer of paint, which wears concrete down over time. So long as you know how to prep concrete for staining, you'll maintain its strength after you finish your project.
