"John Sherlock and his wife Corrine called within 1/2 hour of looking for Lightning Rod installers. He was available and was over to talk with us within one hour. He sent all his credentials and licenses and insurance coverages of his business and they came over the next morning and completed the installation extremely fast. He gave a fantastic offer, and lifetime warranty coverage and will even come over and take down system when we replace the roof and place back up at no charge! His wife even saw some plants we had not put in the garden still sitting in containers, and offered and planted them in the spaces we wanted, just to help out. Very friendly, helpful, professional, extremely knowledgeable and even suggested adding Lakeland Electrics Surge Protector protection they provide to go along with the Lightning rods. Yes would have them again on any home anytime."

"My wife contacted several painters in the local area for price quotes. She knew she wanted David and his team the moment she met him. He was professional, extremely knowledgable, and he gave us a military discount. My landlord was very particular about how she wanted the house painted and David took all of that into consideration. Leading up to the job, he notified me when he purchased the specific paint she wanted and the total cost. He also contacted me the day prior and the morning of. His team arrived on time. I don't think we anticpiated how long it was going to take for our two story home to get loaded into that truck but it took most of the day. David worked solo on painting while his team moved and never missed a beat. In fact, when my landlord showed up to check on the progress she started grilling him and he had answers for everything...different kinds of paints, bases, primer use and when, cutting style, technique, etc. etc. She left pleased as he now does painting for her other homes! As the day wore on, he bought his team lunch and dinner (including me) to keep his guys' motivated. He even bought my dog some snacks for the long cross-country drive we were about to embark on. When I kept noticing small things I didn't want to get dinged on by my landlord, I ran it by him, he looked at the area (stairwell, closet, and another bedroom that wasn't included in the original quote), and gave me a fair price to do the job right now. I was very impressed! I kept making his day longer and longer by requesting more work from him and his team and they kept working. I understand they are getting paid but was impressed with his professional ability to adapt and press until the work was accomplished. The walk through the following day went great and as I said, my landlord went from being a doubter (because I didn't go with her guy and maybe get money out of me) to now using him on her other properties! I would use David Murphy and his team again and I would reccommend them to anyone in the central Illinois area looking to have quality, affordable, painting done for their residence or business.

Electrical questions, answered by experts

A home electrical inspection usually takes one to two hours. Full home inspections fall on the longer side, while code compliance inspections that focus on a single repair or installation may only take a few minutes. Optional add-ons like infrared inspections can add time, but these aren’t usually included in your standard inspection.

On average, the cost to wire a new home ranges from $2 to $5 per square foot. The cost to rewire a house is around the same, ranging from $2 to $4 per square foot. Often, though, new wiring comes with lower overall costs since it’s much easier to access a home’s foundation.

If one plug in your outlet works but the other doesn't, it could be due to a few reasons. The outlet might have a loose or damaged internal connection on the non-working side. Another possibility is that the outlet is a split receptacle, with one half controlled by a wall switch that might be turned off. Additionally, debris or damage inside the non-working plug could prevent a proper connection. If you can't identify the issue, remember to prioritize safety. Replace the outlet or consult a professional electrician to ensure safety and proper functionality.

If wiring in a relatively modern home is damaged due to sudden events like a fire, a tree falling into the house, or a flood, then homeowners insurance is very likely to cover the cost of replacing the wire.

However, if it’s determined that wiring failed or started the fire because of age, neglect, or not meeting current electrical standards, then insurance won’t be covering any replacement. Also, insurance policies may charge more for particularly old kinds of wiring like aluminum wiring or deny applications altogether.

We highly recommend that you use an electrician to wire a doorbell if you don't have electrical skills. You can tackle this project on your own, but it would be best done alongside a professional to reduce all the safety risks, as working with wires can be dangerous and potentially deadly.
