"I had rainwater coming in through a door and window frame. Dario and Juan knew right away that the problem was coming from where my deck meets the siding. They removed deck boards to discover a gap in the siding. Checked for water damage (thankfully no damage). Sealed the gap. I have not had any rainwater issues since. Price was totally reasonable. We discussed other future repairs/projects for my home and I look forward to working with them again."

"I hired Belmont to repair a covered deck where one corner had sagged. The owner, Adam, was quick to provide an estimate. His estimate was detailed and showed that he understood the root cause (concrete block footing vs 42" pier now required under code). I agreed with his repair approach. Adam and his team did a great job on the repair, there were no surprises and deck and roof are now level. His main carpenter Ivan was especially good, meticulous. I am very happy with Belmont and would hire them again."

"Fantastic company, great team! Hired them to stain and refinish our 4-story deck, they were the only company that actually came out to view the job and guarantee the accuracy of the quote. Super responsive and communicative, working around the rain and our schedules! Extremely detail oriented work, fixing boards and repairing where necessary. Highly recommend John and Mikey and team."

"Frankâ s Construction replaced the boards and rails of our deck and stained all of the wood. Mike recommended Trex for the deck and it looks great. It was good working with Mike. He and his team were there on the day we agreed to. He said it would be done in 2 days and it was done in 2 (long) days. We canâ t say enough about his crew. Courteous and careful, asking often if we had any questions and clear on what was being. Mike and team do a good job"

"The deck that I had replaced I am beyond satisfied the install under Gabino I am very impressed with his work he was able to provide photos of previous work gave suggestions and at the end the deck came out better than I expected. He was honest about the price, he and the owner Mark was able to work with my budget in which I am grateful for without compromise of quality. After having 3 companies come out I choose them due to the great reviews I read. Again I thank Next Level construction for their professionalism and good I definitely plan to use them for future projects."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Cutting the boards directly is one of the fastest ways to remove deck boards with hidden fasteners. Mark two parallel lines that are one-third of the total measurement on both ends and cut out the centerpiece. Then, remove the end of the board that doesn’t have a fastener. Finally, pry open the fastened side and pull it up to pop out the screw or access the fastener. This also allows you to salvage portions of boards for other projects.

The best way to sand a deck is by cleaning it, sanding the boards and stairs with 60- or 80-grit sandpaper, and sanding the railings and posts with 80-grit sandpaper. You should sand in the direction of the wood grain to avoid damaging the timber. When sanding your deck, use medium pressure and aim for an even sand. Pressing too hard with a sander can damage decks, as most are softwoods.

It’s best to prime composite decking before painting. This promotes better paint adhesion, helps create a smooth finish, and can mean the paint job will last longer. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application, allow ample primer drying time before painting (typically 24 to 48 hours), and thoroughly clean the deck boards to promote the best adhesion.

Pressure-treated decking may be worth it if you want a natural, insect- and rot-resistant decking material that will last for decades with proper maintenance. As such, it’s a much better option than untreated pine. Alternative wood decking materials like cedar and redwood tend to be less durable and more expensive. Some homeowners prefer composite decking, which is a low-maintenance alternative to wood but is also more costly.

No, termites do not eat Trex or any other composite decking brand. Termites eat cellulose, of which composite decking like Trex contains very little compared to natural wood. This feature can help justify the higher Trex decking costs if you live in an area with abundant termites.
