It is difficult to find an excellent contractor who is willing to take on a major remodeling project in old construction, and who handles it efficiently, cost-effectively, and with perfection. This time we were remodeling a 110 year-old bathroom. When we got down to the studs, joists, and rafters, the plans were worthless because of all the surprises. "I had a electrical switch that kept overloading. I spoke to Dewayne in the morning and told him I was going to see replacing an outlet would fix the issue. He told me that was fine and not only told me to call him if it didn't fix the issue, but also offered to answer questions if I ran into difficulties. I wound up having Dewayne come out as my simple fix didn't work. Even though I called him again in the afternoon, he still came out the same day and found there was a short somewhere in one of the rooms. He was there for a while trying to locate the short and was able to get my problem resolved and got the switch to stop overloading. He was very friendly and explained everything he was doing as I wanted to understand. On top of that, he was very upfront with the potential costs and was willing to give me an idea of what my job might cost, given the likely issue. This extremely helpful and was unlike another company who only told me they priced the work by job!"

A 7,500-watt generator will run your refrigerator, freezer, well pump, and lighting circuits without a problem. However, you’ll need an extra 3,000 to 4,500 watts to run your water heater and another 5,000 to 25,000 watts to run your electric furnace. In these instances, a whole-home generator is your best bet for running your critical equipment.

When choosing the right size generator for your needs, consider a few items to help calculate the wattage you’ll need. Start by determining which household items and appliances you want to power, and then add the wattages together. Check out the wattage of these essential appliances:

  • Refrigerator: 600 watts

  • Large dehumidifier: 700 watts

  • Large window air conditioner: 1,400 watts

  • Water heater: 3,000 watts

Running home appliances like these requires a partial or whole-house generator. A portable generator may be enough to power your home if you only plan to keep a refrigerator and freezer running.
