"Steve installed a new vanity and a new toilet upstairs as well as removing a huge ugly microwave above the stove and installing a new range hood. He also did some smaller electrical and plumbing things in our new 1957 house that my husband asked of him, with great success. His service was wonderful -- he's low-key and patient and does really fine, careful work. His prices are unbeatable (we had other estimates). We loved him, and he's coming back to hang all new closet doors and install a back splash in the kitchen. We are brand new to Idaho Falls and didn't know where to turn, and HomeAdvisor sent us to the right place with AllAboutHomeRepairLLC and Steve. Also his office manager Stephanie is very responsive. Couldn't have asked for more (but we WILL ask for "more of him" as my husband thinks of new projects!)"

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Common problems include leaks, clogs, and low water pressure. Regular maintenance prevents major disruptions.

Completing a full standard bathroom remodel offers the best value, with an average return on investment (ROI) of 70%. However, you don't need a full remodel to make an impact. To maximize value, focus on key components like flooring, the tub and shower, vanity, and cabinets. High-value upgrades include installing a walk-in shower, resurfacing a tub, retiling, or expanding the shower. For more budget-friendly options that still increase value, consider repainting with a light, neutral color, or updating the mirror and light fixtures. It's also crucial to address any necessary repairs, such as leaks, mold, or cracked tiles, as buyers will notice these issues. Avoid flashy upgrades like bathtub jets or steam showers, which don't add as much value.

After flushing the toilet, you should have about half a tank full of water. While the exact amount of water you’ll have will vary, you want to make sure you have enough to cover the bottom of the bowl and enough to sit above the P-trap drain. While low water in your toilet bowl can indicate a problem, too much water can also be cause for concern.

Yes, and no. Your shower, toilet, and sink all connect to the same main drain, but the secondary drains going from each fixture to the main drain are usually separate. This isn’t always the case—especially in older homes—but since toilets contain black water and showers, tubs, and sinks have grey water, toilets are more regulated and come at a greater risk of contamination. It’s best to keep these drains separate using individual waste collection for this reason.

Yes, you can pour water down the toilet to help it flush. For each flush, you’ll need 1 to 2 gallons of water for newer toilets or 3 to 5 gallons of water for older toilets. Rather than dumping the entire bucket in all at once, pour the water in slowly for the best results. If you’re pouring water down the toilet to help it flush after a clog, only use 1 gallon of hot water.
