"Install was easy. Up front cost was pretty low with Angie's List coupon. Monthly price is a little high compared to competing companies. Response time with alarms is excellent. I was advised to use glass break alarms within 10 ft of my first floor windows, which we installed correctly. I asked prior to installation if having one in the kitchen would cause false alarms due to dishes clanging, etc. I was told the glass break alarms are configured to a precise frequency that alarms with breaking glass. So, not a "no", but not really an answer. Well, every time we cook dinner, wash dishes or empty the dish washer, the kitchen glass break alarm gives a warning which would sound the alarm if it was set. This has caused us a number of false alarms while we've been away due to shifting bowls or plates in our drying rack. For the first several we've had to pay our police department $120 to check the house, and I was only notified after the first alarm that there was a cheaper option for a security company to drive by to check for a break in."

"First the good:
The up front cost cant be beat since all of the sensors and control panel were no cost to cover 20 doors and windows.  Installation was pretty straight forward and the phone reps were fairly knowledgeable and professional.  I added a couple features like an extra key pad, siren and glass break sensors that cost aprox $350.  The extras were a little pricey but compared to the $2000 another provided quoted, it was still a deal.
The control panel is cellular based so cutting your phone lines will not effect the alarm.
Now the not so good:
The quality of the sensors has not been very good.  I have had 2 DOA when the packages arrived new and 2 failed within several days.  When I contacted Protect America they were very nice about sending me new ones, but it took weeks and a couple calls before I saw the first replacements.  The second set of replacements that arrived for the failed units ended up being the wrong sensors.  Their shipping department does not seem to have good quality control.  The next very annoying element is the wait time on the phone when you are trying to get anything set up.  I spent a couple hours on hold working through the set up the first time and at least an hour the second time when I installed the replacement sensors.
Some cautions; make sure you hide the main control panel because if an intruder disables it before the alarm has sounded for 60 seconds, the police may not be notified.  Also they only call to check if everything is ok if the alarm is not canceled for 60 seconds.  So you can not be sure if the signal is getting through.
Monthly monitoring fee is high, but since the system was intially free, even after 3 years it is still the cheaper route.
Now that I have the equipment, once our contract is expired I will find a different alarm provider that responds to every alarm.

"Choice seems a bit shady. They don't show you anything on the website regarding what's offered. And in 24 hrs I immediately began front marketing calls about home security. It would be helpful as A MEMBER to have an the deals I'm eligible for on the website but nope. Bare bones website. And a circular repetitive aggressive sales. I say no the response is well you have to have a credit card? Yes yes I do and if I had wanted to use it I would have began my service with using a credit card. I choose to pay cash because that's what I wanted to do. I tell them my insurance doesn't give me a discount on having a monitored security system and I get argued with. Trust me when I say that I've found every single form of saving money possibly known to man and take advantage of every opportunity I get to do so. By the end of my 30 min marketing assault I requested to be removed from there marketing list and to have my card removed from my account. They store everything and are willing at the push off a button to charge you for what they are selling. How can you have a locked in 3 year price point that never ends. If it's only 3 years then it ends at 3 years. If there price never changes then there's no need to mention the 3 years. I mean these fast talking used car sales tactics are ridiculous and I needed a shower after speaking to them. Cause I'm sure I've been taken advantage of."
