"Ray came out on a Saturday within an hour to lower the drain on my sink after I'd installed a new sink that was too deep for my old drain location. Cut into the drywall and bored through stud into the back of my cabinet and lowered it about 6". Finished installing the garbage disposal + dishwasher while he was here too which was awesome. Great guy to work with. I will definitely give him a call next time I need plumbing help."

"They were very professional. Every employee new their task and performed it to their best ability. I asked how long it would take to perform job, they said 4 days. They worked through inclement weather which impressed me and at the end of 4 days it was complete. The landscaping they did to finish the outside of project was done and it looked amazing. Inside clean up was done and looked great. This work crew was amazing. Yes I would recommend this company to anyone."

"My kitchen faucet began leaking every time I turned it on. Water damage to the wood cabinet under the sink threatened, so I needed it replaced promptly. A call to Idaho Plumbing Services early on a Monday resulted in them arranging to have someone come that very day. The work was prompt, professional and clean. I love my new kitchen faucet! We are very pleased with Idaho Plumbing Services and would use them again for any of our plumbing needs."

"We hired dirt brothers to remove our xeriscape from our front yard and they did a fabulous job! Within an hour of inquiring, I received a phone call from them to get a little more information about my project. The next day they came by and took a look at my yard. They asked if they could take 15 minutes to make a few calls and crunch some numbers and get me a quote on the spot. I was delighted to hear they could quote me so quickly! Within 15 minutes, they were back at my door telling me what my project would cost. The number was fair and reasonable for the amount of work I was requesting so I hired them! They left my front yard clean and removed all debris. What impressed me most about this team is that they were good on their word every step of the way: the project cost was what they initially quoted, the project began when they said it would, and they finished it in the timeframe they proposed. Very pleased and would highly recommend to anyone needing excavation work!"

French Drains questions, answered by experts

Your garbage disposal is not draining because it might have a clog due to food waste, a foreign object, grease, oil, fat, or it may have a broken motor. When water doesn't flush out of the disposal, that's a key sign that your disposal has a clog or needs repair.

A clogged air gap can cause a dishwasher not to drain. There are, however, other potential issues that can lead to improper drainage. For example, if you have attached the air gap to a garbage disposal and forgotten to remove the knockout plug, wastewater may backflow into the dishwasher. Check that the air gap is installed properly, and then look for clogs in the air gap and dishwasher filters.

Baking soda and vinegar is a great solution for cleaning your sink drain; in fact, it’s our preferred method. Here’s how to unclog your drain with baking soda and vinegar: Pour in a half cup of baking soda, then 1 cup of white vinegar, and let the two bubble for 15 minutes. Then rinse out with boiling water. This method is much safer than using a chemical drain cleaner gel.

The first rule of plumbing is nothing but water, toilet paper, number one, and number two go down the drain.

To prevent clogs, get yourself:

  • A compast pail where you can clean plates, drain grease, and toss scraps and paper towels.

  • Drain screens for the shower, tub, and bathroom sink to stop hair, jewelry, toys, etc. from going down the drain.

  • Trash cans for everything that shouldn’t go down the drain, like dental floss, hygiene products, and cat litter.

P.S.: If you do drop your priceless ring down the drain, take a deep breath, and then follow these steps to retrieve jewelry from your drain.

Bleach is generally not recommended for your shower drains. Although diluted bleach can technically help clean your drain, it will not unclog your pipes. In fact, bleach can harm your plumbing system because it’s so powerful. The bleach can change the color of your sink and even corrode metal pipes and fittings.

Often, people reach for bleach because it's already in their house. But it's worth getting a plunger or a drain snake for the job instead. It'll be a lot less money to buy a new plunger than to pay a plumber to repair or replace damaged pipes.
