"Ryan Seminario/Black Iron Construction installed a sliding door package in our living room. It was difficult to find someone willing to do a smaller project but Ryan was totally on board. This project required installing a header and re-constructing the wall to fit the doors, putting up drywall, sanding and texturing the wall and putting up new siding on the outside. He did a beautiful job! He paid attention to detail and got everything right. He is very good about communicating. Especially when he will be on site and what he will be working on. When he wasn't comfortable doing the wiring needed for our project, he was honest and upfront with me. We worked together and found an electrician to do it. He put up a plastic wall around the work area and cleaned the work area at the end of each day. I really appreciated that! I highly recommend Black Iron Construction for any project."

"I think Ho and Lacy do an excellent job of listening to what you are looking for and then offering a number of options to match those needs. We decided to have them design a nursery for us for our first child. We had no idea where to start but we knew that we wanted to make it special and cozy. Within a few, very efficiently run, meetings, Jackie had a lengthy list of options for everything we talked about. And there were times where we disagreed and asked for some other options than what she had provided and she was able to do that in a timely manner, with options that we loved. We made very few changes to the options originally provided for us because Jackie was able to capture our vision just through talking about things. She also was able to steer us away from luxury items that are advertised as for a nursery but things we really did not need. One of my favorite parts of this process, was that, other than the crib and changing toppers, all of the furniture we purchased is reusable in other rooms once our child gets a little older. I think this is a great way to help your clients feel like they are really being heard, while also providing them with ways to save money down the road."

Architects questions, answered by experts

A floor plan is a less detailed illustration showing a building or room's layout from above, including elements like windows, doors, walls, and fixtures. It offers a simplified view for homeowners. In contrast, a blueprint is a more detailed, to-scale architectural drawing that includes all parts of the building plans, such as structural elements, construction details, and utility schematics. While a floor plan can be a type of view within a blueprint, the complete blueprint contains all the necessary details to turn the plan into a reality.

While possible for small projects, professional designers ensure compliance with building codes and structural integrity.

Yes, integrating sustainable practices and energy efficiency into plans is common.

Federal and Colonial architecture are similar in that they both appear mostly utilitarian and symmetrical, but Federal architecture is a bit more ornate. Federal design often includes decorative palladium windows, window lintels, and, sometimes, columns surrounding a more decorative portico. Inside, Federal architecture is set apart by its centrally-located oval room. Additionally, Federal homes tend to have brick facades, whereas Colonial homes more often have wood siding.

Above all, the downside to building a new house is a longer timeline. You need several months to finish the build, depending on the supply chain and labor availability in the meantime. Building a home compared to buying one is also more expensive, both in the building process and when it comes to mortgage rates and property taxes.
