"I’m sharing this publicly because I have been misled, overcharged, and repeatedly ignored by Aksarben, and after giving them every opportunity to make things right. What started as a simple routine service call under my HSP membership turned into a high-pressure sales situation. Shortly after the technician visit, a salesperson arrived and quoted me nearly $20,000 for what was described as a “top-of-the-line” system — including $2,400 for a new water heater, supposedly with HSP discounts. During the signing, the salesperson instructed me to rush through the “quality control” call and falsely confirm I had reviewed multiple system options. I was only given one option, with no effort made to provide alternatives. I have also since requested a copy of the QA recording and been completely ignored. After installation, I discovered they had left my 1990s humidifier connected to this brand-new system. I was never told this would not be replaced and was later informed I’d need to pay another $784 (and at different times $500 and $1,500) to fix it. These inconsistent and shifting quotes are deceptive. After consulting multiple licensed HVAC professionals, I confirmed the total price was $6,000–$7,000 higher than comparable systems. The equipment sold to me is not top-of-the-line by any reasonable standard. I requested an itemized breakdown of costs and have been ignored entirely. To make matters worse, the system failed inspection by MUD utilities and was declared unsafe, leaving my home without gas service, hot water, or laundry for days. Aksarben refused to honor its own 24-hour comfort guarantee and has not issued the promised $555 compensation. When I attempted to cancel the purchase within the 10-day window, both the salesperson and sales manager were “unavailable,” and I was promised callbacks that never came. Multiple texts, emails and phone calls have gone unanswered. I’ve asked for the following reasonable resolutions multiple times: 1. A partial refund reflecting the excessive overcharges. 2. Replacement of the outdated humidifier at no additional cost. 3. The $555 compensation for the failed 24-hour guarantee. Instead, I’ve received only silence and dismissive responses. At this point, I am formally filing complaints with the Better Business Bureau, the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office, and other consumer protection agencies, and I am exploring legal action. This post is not an invitation for further discussion with Aksarben — it is a public statement of accountability. Homeowners deserve transparency, honesty, and respect, and my goal is to make others aware of how this company conducts business."

Backlund Plumbing is one of Omaha's oldest and most respected plumbing companies. Backlund Plumbing started in Omaha in 1939 and has grown to be one of the largest and most respected plumbing companies in the area. Today we have over 30 professional licensed plumbers and customer service representatives, a fleet of fully equipped residential and commercial plumbing trucks and a 10,000 ft warehouse. One thing that has stayed consistent is customer satisfaction. Backlund Plumbing is known for honesty, quality and reliability and is one of the few companies that still stands behind its work with a full customer satisfaction guarantee. Backlund Plumbing still charges by the hour because we feel that is the fair way to charge our customers. We do not figure in any mistake time nor special percs for our technicians nor unfair high profits. Backlund Plumbing does not charge a trip charge nor does it put undo pressure to sign proposals for work to highly priced.

"We trusted backlund to ensure the lift station in our house was functioning properly and in good condition before agreeing to purchase our house. $1200 later someone named Jake said it was good to go. So we agreed with the purchase of the house. A month later it stopped working and our laundry room flooded. When we called backlund they said Jake no longer works there and sent someone else out. They took one look at the lift station and said it was at the end of its life and needed to be replaced. BACKLUND FAILED TO DISCLOSE THIS INFORMATION BEFORE WE PURCHASED OUR HOUSE. They did a patch up job so it seemed to function for the sale. Given we can not afford a new 5k lift station we asked if they would patch it up again. They got some new parts re used some old parts of another lift station and billed us $1200. So now we are $2400 in to what should have just been 5k in the first place. They should have replaced it initially because now when everything is said and done we will have nearly $7500 invested in this lift station instead of what should have just been 5k to begin with. The parts they purchased will just be replaced because everything would come with the new lift station. On top of that we were billed 6 hours for an electrician who missed a rusted out pipe that connects the lift station from inside to outside. If you spend 6 hours trying to figure out why something does not work you think they would actually examine what they are trying to fix. Unbelievable. We are taking our issue to the better business bureau."

Dedicated to your home comfort since 1970. The roots of McCarthy’s One Hour start when John McCarthy Sr. was let go in 1970 from his first job with a small air conditioner repair company – for refusing to overcharge a customer. John took advice from his wife Mary Kay and mother-in-law and started his own business. Armed with only $200 in working capital and an old rusty truck he purchased from his banker, he set out to serve the heating, air conditioning and overall home comfort needs of Omaha residents. Mary Kay was with him every step of the way, taking phone calls and setting appointments to keep her husband busy. Together, they worked long hours, paid careful attention to details, and followed a simple motto that remains a focal point of the company today: “Urgency and accountability: every detail is important, and it’s everybody’s job to get it right.” After many years of service McCarthy's One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning is still servicing the Omaha metro area with about 45 employees. John and Mary Kay McCarthy are still very much apart of the business; Mary Kay still helps in the call center and John Sr is there to help in training the technicians to uphold their high standards.

"we needed to replace our HVAC because of age. Called McCarthy’s on Thursday, they were to us Friday AM and new installation of HVAC completed Monday by 1:00 pm. They were professional, super efficient and very caring. Thank you Sam Roger’s for taking such good care of us as well as our installers. "

"I contacted American Rooter plumbing because we had our shower and bathroom sink faucet would not stop dripping, like non-stop dripping. They came by and did a full evaluation of the home and found we needed: - A new shower and bathtub (which we planned on eventually doing anyway) - new sink faucets - emergency stops for all sinks in the house - a new main line stop since it was rusted over - complete repair of our outdoor water line stop - and a few parts here and there. We just moved in this house and knew that there would be a lot to fix so, begrudgingly we agreed. It came to a whopping total of almost $14,000 for everything. The first day they have to do stuff it goes fine, water heater is installed, stops put in goes well, then comes the day of the new tub, sink, etc. And I could not be more disappointed. First and most importantly, they just left the wall completely exposed! There are just parts of the drywall missing so the inside of the house is exposed (pictures included) and when I contacted them they said that "their job is done, so they aren't coming back". They never once told me that I would have to hire a drywall person to finish their job for them. They told me that once they were done it would be installed, ready to use and clean, it was anything but and they won't do anything about it except tell me to get an inspector and a dry wall person. Wish they told me that before going through with the project, not after. Speaking of clean, however, it was anything but. The tub was a mess, they left drywall bits all over the floor in the hall and bathroom and put all of our bathroom items in the hall and doorway so there was nowhere to walk and I had to clean up the debris. So it was anything but "cleaner than we started". Finally, they just cause more issues for some reason? The new shower starting part is not flush against the wall so water is just going to get inside of it and cause it to rust, they took our towel rod down for some reason and didn't put it back up, they turned off our water heater and didn't turn it back on, so we didn't have hot water for four hours and didn't know why, and finally, they left almost all the doors open and lights on. This is especially bad because I have 3 cats that do not need to be getting out or in places they aren't supposed to, they could also get sick from eating dry wall. Most importantly, I also have an 18 month old that could be doing the exact same! I am extremely dissatisfied, I have to pay even MORE money on top of the 14,000 and I just don't know what I'm paying for now. My house is dirtier, more broken, and more dangerous than it was before they got here. Don't get American Rooter."

"DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! This was our first time using Two men and a snake and it was a bad experience due to the fact they did not fix the issue we called about. We called to report a leaking dishwasher causing our basement ceiling to leak. The plumber came out and charged us around $700 for labor and parts to repair a pipe under our sink and in our basement wall to fix the leak when this did not resolve the issue we asked them numerous times to look at the dishwasher and turn water off to it, had they dont that on day one we wouldnt have had to call another company out to turn off the water and advise us we had a bad dishwasher and needed a new one. They instead changed pipes and made a mess of our walls unnecessarily to fix pipes that werent busted until they snaked the drain, although our pipe was corroded I agreed to pay for the first visit and the parts used if they agreed to remove charges for work that was not necessary they refused so I have filed a complaint with the BBB and also disputed with my bank these fraud charges of them taking advantage of someone who knows nothing about plumbing and causing further damage they simply said turn into our insurance they will pay for it, NO thank you! That affects my premium and they are trying to get over on us to pay for work we didnt ask for! I WILL NEVER use this scam of a company again and will share my experiences with anyone who will listen to never use them as they will do more work than what is needed and just expect payment. I asked to them to work with me and refund the 2nd days charge of $292 for labor and we would gladly pay the other $400 for services and parts they rudely declined and argues with me about what was going on in my home when we called saying we said a clogged sink and we never had issue with our sink it was always the dishwasher and had told them that from the beginning. They knew all they had to do was turn the water off to the dishwasher and instead of doing the right thing they took advantage and charged us for work that was not needed until they made corroded pipes break by snaking the drain as their office associate Kalli told me over the phone, so you broke my pipe then charged me to fix it? I see how you all do business."

A trusted Omaha, NE, plumber should provide dependable solutions and precise workmanship in the midst of a plumbing catastrophe and Benjamin Franklin Plumbing is proud to offer those qualities in our plumbing professionals. Our business standards are based on prompt arrival, personalized attention to the problem, and exceptional customer service.

"Plumbers entered our home and called our home ugly repeatedly. We caught this on our security cameras. ----------------------------------------------------------------- We just closed on a new home, and per the home inspector's instructions, we needed to add a drain, as the current output from the water heater and softener was draining into a self-installed sink from the previous owners. I called many places and received bids from several. The basis of the job, according to all of these companies, was this: From another plumbing company: To remove drywall, furnish and install pipe and associated fittings for waste and water pipe for stand pipe for washing machine for $1800, OR From a handyman: To break concrete, repipe it, and add a vent - all of which I (the handyman) could do, but I cannot pull a permit per Omaha plumbing code because I am not a master plumber. The estimate I received from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing indicated that they would re-pipe an ADDITIONAL drain for $998. Naturally, I went with them because the receptionist seemed to fully understand my needs and the plumber showed up promptly for the bid. Today, the work was carried out. The plumber brought along his partner, I assume, because it would be a big job that involved cutting drywall or concrete. While they were there, they conversed and made fun of our house, saying "This is such an ugly house. Oh yeah, it's such an ugly house," which we caught on our security cameras. That says enough as it is. The plumber, instead of adding an additional drain, decided to move the two tubes (the output from the water heater and the water softener) that was previously draining into the sink, and simply moved it to the floor, aimed it at the floor drain, and nailed it down. Over the phone, he asked me if I wanted him to install the sink for us. I figured, why not, since he's already there. I was willing to pay him more. He told us it would be a bit more expensive, and I obliged. When he left, we were charged $1,600 instead of the original $998. He did NOT break concrete or drywall to install the initial additional drain that was quoted for $998, but did break drywall so he could move our sink, which is still incomplete, because we need to find someone to fix the drywall before he can come back and attach the sink to the wall. At the heart of the matter, the idea is that they charge $998 to move two output drains that were hanging in a sink, to the floor. All they did was move the two tubes to the floor - something my handyman told us he could've done, and charged us $998. When I asked him about the placements of the drains on the floor, he told us, "every house has this," which is just untrue, because we've lived in at least 5 different houses in Omaha and none of the laundry rooms have looked like this. All this while making fun of our house, humiliating us, and saying how ugly it was. If anyone is dubious of this fact, I have the video downloaded from our security camera, and I'm willing to share it with anyone who is interested. I called the front desk and have not heard from the manager, nor have I received a receipt detailing what exactly cost us $998 as part of the $1600. I'm highly disappointed in this company. I cannot believe their plumbers would enter my house, act like I don't know anything about plumbing, and call my house ugly repeatedly. Truly a heartbreaking experience."

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

If you leave liquid drain cleaner for too long, it will start breaking down your drainpipes. The chemicals in these cleaners can cause cracks, corrosion, and leaks in your pipes. They can also damage plumbing fixtures and even cause environmental damage if left too long without rinsing away.

Septic tanks can clog if they aren’t pumped every few years since solid waste accumulates inside of them. Your tank might also clog if you have a habit of flushing anything other than human waste or toilet paper. Items like diapers, baby wipes, paper towels, cat litter, and personal hygiene products should never go down your pipes.

There are several steps you can take to prevent your AC drain from clogging. This includes cleaning the drain line at least every three months, changing the filter every one to three months, and getting your AC serviced annually. Also, if any problems arise with your AC, hire an HVAC technician to deal with them ASAP.

Main sewer lines can clog for several reasons. For example, if you regularly dump oil or grease down your drain, it could eventually block your line. Sometimes, tree roots can penetrate and grow inside old sewer pipes, creating a major blockage. Flushing bulky items (like paper towels, diapers, or baby wipes) can also clog your plumbing system.

No. You should dispose of all oil-based finishing products through a local hazardous waste program. Not only can oil-based finishes be hazardous for the environment if disposed of in the sink, but they can cause clogs in your pipes and stop up your drains. Most municipal garbage or waste disposal companies have a specific location or pick-up schedule for hazardous materials, so that’s your best bet to get rid of excess finishing products.
