"Justin was great 👍. Repaired and sealed 25 year old asphalt and it looks brand new, no kidding..... Work done accordingly to schedule. Came back to check on the drive a few times to be sure we were happy. Price was fair. Not high and not the cheapest from non professional companies."

"AMP replaced my old deck and added a pergola. Because I decided to keep the existing under carriage they leveled and added more support for the new decking which went both horizontal and lateral. All waste material was cleaned daily and the work was completed in a timely fashion at a reasonable rate. They did an outstanding job and I highly recommend AMP Construction for any building project."

"Preston and the Iowa Landscaping crew were great to work with. They did a raised flower bed in the front of our home, planted another area for us, and built a retaining wall area on the side of our house. The design process was seem-less, Preston stayed in constant contact with us, and the end result was phenomenal. Could not be happier to recommend to anyone and everyone."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Asphalt dries and cures best between 50 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. This range allows moisture to evaporate quickly without causing the asphalt to cool too fast, which can negatively affect the drying process. However, keep in mind that other weather conditions can also affect curing and drying times, such as precipitation and humidity.

At a depth of two inches, a ton of asphalt covers around 80 to 100 square feet. However, the thicker the asphalt, the less surface area it will cover. That’s why measuring correctly is essential when estimating asphalt needs and costs to ensure you get enough material to cover your entire driveway, patio, or other asphalt surface.

The answer to whether or not you need to get a permit before you start your driveway can vary widely based on local ordinances and the scope of your driveway ideas. In most urban and suburban areas, a permit is needed before building a new driveway to ensure that a homeowner is using safe materials and proper drainage practices while designing and constructing a new driveway. In some rural areas, a homeowner may not be required to apply for a permit. When building a new driveway on your own, always check with your local building department to see if you need to request a permit. When hiring a driveway contractor, verify that the right permits are being used before driveway construction begins.

This creates a risk for your driveway to fail after asphalt curing because it doesn't have a lasting bond with the surface. In order to get asphalt to perform as intended, it's necessary to prepare the dirt surface correctly first. The loose soil base under the new driveway must be compacted until it is stable enough to support the weight of the asphalt.

Driveway aprons typically range between four and seven inches thick, though your town's building codes will likely have specific requirements. Additionally, you may need to add a layer of permeable aggregate in the excavation below your paved apron to ensure proper stormwater drainage.
