- When Home Town gives you a bid, that's the price you pay. We had worked with other contractors in the past that wanted to remeasure and reprice the project half way through it or after it was completed. - When Home Town began installing our deck, they were using screws instead of biscuits to install the deck boards. We had understood that the boards would be installed with biscuits so, we asked why they were using screws. Home Town explained the reason they felt screws were the best way for us to proceed but, they gave us the final decision on screws verses biscuits. When we decided to go with biscuits, Home Town did not hesitate to remove the boards that had been installed with screws. It was great to work with a company that wanted to ensure we loved our finished product. - Every person that we talked to at Home Town was extremely nice and pleasant to work with. Our project manager, Tom Casey, was amazing! Every single worker that came to our home was friendly and trustworthy. The owner of the business even stopped by during the job to ensure we were pleased with how things were proceeding. - Home Town did an excellent job of communicating with us. During the bidding process, Home Town took the time to ensure they understood what was important to us. They started the job on the day they said they would be here and they let us know in advance when they were waiting on supplies one day and could not proceed. The workers arrived on time each morning and they cleaned up the job site every night before leaving. Home Town completed the job on schedule. - Home Town gave us multiple suggestions and options for replacing the awning over our patio. It was great working with a company that had completed similar projects allowing them to draw on their previous experiences when helping us design the best solution for our home. - When we compared the multiple bids we received for our projects, Home Town offered the highest quality products with the best warranties. - The finished deck and awning look AMAZING!!!! We will contact Home Town for all of our future projects.

That is the extent of good things that I can say about Culver's landscaping. The project manager Nick proved completely inept and incompetent in managing the project and never once showed up on site before, during or after the job. The lighting crew was also completely incompetent but I'll get to those details shortly. April 2011: My experience started with visiting Culver's landscaping office to talk to someone about landscaping my front yard only to be told nobody was there that could talk to me about it. They took down my information and said someone would be in contact with me. A few weeks later they decide to contact me. I should have took that as a red flag and moved on. I only stuck with them because I was already a customer with their lawn treatment service for 2 years who had done a decent job. I met with the landscape designer Tyler who listened to what we wanted and prepared a design and after a few revisions gave him the go ahead and they requested a $3000 deposit at that point which I paid and was told work would start in a few weeks and would only take 2-3 days to complete the job. May 2011: I waited 3 weeks after I was told they would start the job in 2 weeks. At this point they still hadn't started the job and nobody from Culver's contacts me to let me know what's going on so I try several failed attempts at contacting this project manager Nick who over the course of several more weeks just keeps telling yeah we'll get out there in a few days only to wait another week and told the same thing again. June 2011: Finally they decide to show up. Well by they I mean the crew not the project manager. Only problem is the crew has no leader and were given no landscape designs to work from. I get my copy and give it to the crew at least until the landscape designer showed up and brought a copy for them. At this point the designer ended up acting as the project manager throughout the rest of the job. Not once did the actual project manager show up or even so much as call. Finally at the end of June they claim the job is complete. Not so much. Now lets talk about their completely incompetent lighting crew. We are talking about over $2000 worth of professional landscape lighting. First they installed mostly incorrect lights, installed the wrong lighting control box and installed it too far away from the electrical outlet so they couldn't even plug it in. After numerous failed attempts at contacting this inept project manager as well as trying to contact Mr Culver himself they finally respond after 3 weeks to let me know that the lighting crew will be back out to fix the lighting. This time they fabricate a 4 inch long extension cord which for one completely negates the point of the weather protection cover of the outlet because one end of the extension cord is exposed to the elements and 2 they don't even know how to build the cable properly because both ends of the cord had exposed wiring. I immediately removed the cord before it could get shorted out by the rain that day and start my house on fire. They finally came and replaced the box with the correct one and installed it close enough to be plugged into the outlet. They also glued down the capstones on the retaining wall which they also forgot to do. And then the next year as I'm remulching one of the rings around my tree I find out they didn't even bury the power line for the uplight they installed under the tree. I caught it with a rake. I had to dig it all out and bury it properly myself before I get electrocuted. I'm afraid of what else I might find now. August 2011: I finally receive the final bill. Needless to say I would never use their landscaping service ever again and recommend to everyone I know to avoid them. They are very overpriced and not worth the incompetence. In hindsight I should of saw the red flags and I also should have gotten quotes from other landscape companies because since then I've talked to other landscapers who say I paid thousands more than I should have for the amount of work they did. I also cancelled my lawn service with them after the year was up, as it turns out they are also overpriced for what they are providing. I now get far better lawn service for less money from Aaron's Lawn and Landscape. Heskje was hired to paint cabinets in our kitchen and laundry room. Prior to job start, the cabinets were in near-perfect condition - we simply wanted a new color as a part of a remodel. Initially, they failed to properly prep and sand the cabinets before painting, causing the paint to flake...
They did an excellent job installing our patio. They always called before coming over and responded quickly when contacted. Easy to work with. Definitely give them a call for your concrete work.

FAQs for patio cover service projects in Marion, IA
While the terms deck and porch are often used interchangeably, they are two distinct home features. Porches offer a roof that protects from the elements when coming and going from the house. Generally, porches are on the front of your home. On the other hand, decks are generally built in the backyard of a home and offer no roof or protection from the elements, like rain or snow. Porches typically require less maintenance and upkeep thanks to the roof, but both features require regular cleaning and repairs to maintain good condition.
The cost of an awning is $1,400 to $4,400 on average. However, this cost could be as low as $100 or as high as $7,500, depending on a few factors. The type of awning you choose, the size you need, and your location all affect your overall cost.
For example, portable awnings you can put up and take down yourself range from $100 to $400, whereas motorized awnings are more luxurious and cost between $2,000 and $3,500.
The cost to build a deck is $8,025 on average. However, this cost can range anywhere from $1,500 to $22,000, depending on multiple factors, such as size, materials, and deck type. You can expect to pay $30 to $60 per square foot when building a new deck.
Cedar decks are often the most cost-effective option, ranging from $4 to $9per square foot for materials. However, pressure-treated decking, which is resistant to rot, is more expensive, ranging from $15 to $25 per square foot for materials.
Awnings are either fixed or retractable and can be paired with a variety of cover materials. Fixed awnings are a permanent outdoor feature of a building. These are highly durable and require ongoing maintenance. Once installed, the position of this awning cannot be changed.
Retractable awnings are more popular than fixed awnings since the cover can open and close. This allows homeowners to open and close the awning, depending on the weather. When not in use, it can be closed to allow for extra space.
Besides the type of awning, you’ll need to choose the type of cover. Your awning installation professional will review your options with you, including availability and costs. The types of covers you can choose from include:
Wood, which is durable but can be damaged easily by rainwater and fire
Cotton offers flexibility, weatherproofing, and easy cleaning
Canvas is highly durable and is a good choice for retractable awnings
Metal is sturdy but is prone to rust
Polyester is easy to clean and is a more breathable option
Polycarbonate is highly resistant to UV rays and is difficult to damage
