MidAmerica Basement Systems is your premier locally owned and operated company that specializes in foundation repair, basement waterproofing, crawl space repair, concrete leveling, and radon mitigation.

"Salesman that we were to replace dry wall. Later learned we were to have it removed. Attempts to reach supervisors and owners resulted in zero until time to do installation. Gave $1300+ down. Note: this went to the salesman, not to MABS. Then salesman stated $12,000 more if MABS removed the dry wall. Paid salesman and his friend to remove it but didn't do all of it! Sent certified letters to Cedar Rapids address after we got no verbal responses to phone calls. Later learned they receive no mail there, only in Davenport. Were to have GFI outlet placed at far end of basement. 3 electricians said not possible. Also discharge was to be underground to rear of yard which we thought meant to back! House sits on clay. Was to discharge under ground out 10 feet from house. Canceled installation and have found that other basement waterproofing companies do not require 2.5 feet of dry wall removed: only baseboard. Cost was same as MABS. Now we must pay to have drywall installed after the waterproofing is completed."

Riley Plumbing has seven employees, all residential and commercial plumbing, we offer water softener rental, we do sub-contracting work, billing is submitted after work is completed and the customers are happy with the job.

"This was a small repair job that should have required only one plumber for a short period of time. This plumbing company sent two people and it appears that they billed for two people. They showed up and were shown the leak and even though the leak location was identified when the appointment was made they did not bring the new fixtures to replace the leaking on. They then returned to their shop (both people) to get the new fixture. I was also apparently billed for the time (~40 minutes) it took for them to get the part. I would have thought it would be prudent for one person to stay behind and disassemble the leaking fixture while the other retrieved the part but they both went back to their shop. When they returned, one of the plumbers repaired the leak while the other stood and watched the entire time. Once the repair was complete it was discovered that the pressure switch was not shutting off properly. They agreed it was likely a bad pressure switch due to water contamination from the pinhole leak. Again, they had to return (another 30 - 40 minutes) to the shop (both people) for a pressure switch. They replaced the pressure switch and all worked fine. In total, including trips back and forth to their shop they took about 3 hours. My bill came in at over $500 including $385 for labor. I called their office and ask to speak to Dan Riley about the invoice and was told he was out but would return my call . Threes days later, I had not heard from him so I called again and got a voicemail so I left another message. I am still waiting for a return call."

"This company is beyond disappointing. Our sewer was backing up and flooding our basement enough to be an issue. It was late in the afternoon and we didn’t have many options at all. We called around trying to get someone out as soon as possible. We found lowden plumbing and heating on google, they were 15 mins away from our house which was great! I called and spoke to someone asking for a quote to come out. I told him we needed someone to come snake our sewer drain because it was backing up. He said they charge $60 an hour and that is from when they leave their shop to when they return. That sounded fair so we asked them to come. I timed from when they first pulled up to our house to when they left. They were at our house 45 mins, so that plus driving time we were expecting a bill for around $120. They were nice, fixed our problem we thought it’d be great! A couple weeks later we get the bill. $278.20. We were charged for three hours of labor, plus an $80 rental fee for the sewer eel. We were floored and so upset when we saw that. When my husband went to the lowden store the man refused to help, and didn’t believe the quotes we’d received for the same job from surrounding businesses. Which were around the range we initially thought we’d be paying. He informed my husband that the invoice had already been issued so there was nothing he could do, and to go to a different office in lost nation. My husband went and spoke with Jody, a registered owner, and she would only remove the rental fee. We later found out they own their sewer eel. We were charged an $80 rental fee for equipment they own, and never told about it. The labor we were charged was because they sent two men out. An hour and half per person. The best take away we have from this is our sewer is working and we know to never go through lowden plumbing and heating for anything. I highly recommend you use another company. We wanted to use someone local, get it done faster, and that ended up not working to our advantage."

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

No, it is not advisable to spray pesticides down the drain in your home. Most drinking water and wastewater treatment systems are not properly equipped to remove pesticides. Should pesticides infiltrate waterways, they can cause harm to plants, fish, or other living things. In most areas, pouring pesticides down the drain is illegal due to the potential harm it causes.

You should hire a sewer service professional to unclog a main sewer line with tree roots. Tree roots can grow into the main sewer line, and this problem requires a specialized hydro jet, or rooter, that is powerful enough to clear the roots. The tree can also damage the main sewer line, and a professional will need to make repairs or replace the damaged sections. Sewer line replacement costs about $60 to $250 per linear foot.

It is okay to use a drain auger on a toilet, just make sure you are using the correct tip size. The auger is a plumbing snake with a protective sleeve to protect the porcelain toilet bowl from getting scratched. Using too large of an auger can cause the snake to loop back and damage the inside of the drain and plumbing.

Inspect regularly for clogs, clean drain lines, and ensure grading directs water away from the foundation.

You’ll need to stop or pause the machine using its control panel to start the draining process mid-cycle. Remove the items inside, turn off the power to the machine, and then follow the steps above to drain the machine manually.
