"Very reliable, hard working and professional. Knowledgeable of tree removal. He did a walk through at the end of the project to make sure I was satisfied. I had multiple trees damaged by a storm and he completed the project the same day it was started. Highly recommend this company."

"The people at Kanesville Valley were amazingly responsive, courteous and professional. The crew that came to remove a massive fallen tree from my property were amazingly skilled at their trade and maintained a safe environment. My back yard is awkward to even maneuver private vehicles into and these guys were able to skillfully bring their giant crane truck in and maneuver around making quick work of what would have been a week long undertaking without the use of their specialized equipment. They handled the debris removal expertly, being cautious to prevent any further damage, carefully lifting tree parts off of a shed, yard equipment and even a vehicle, leaving them unscathed. Their skill and expertise, coupled with their specialized equipment that makes the job faster and safer would have been well worth it at twice the price! They will be the first company I call and the first company I recommend for any type of tree work needed."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

There are several signs that may indicate a tree needs to be cut down. These include visible damage to the trunk or branches, a hollow trunk, extensive storm damage, or a significant lean to one side. Other warning signs are pest infestations or the tree growing too close to a house, power lines, or other structures. It is best to hire a professional arborist to inspect the tree, as they can determine if it can be saved or if removal is necessary.

Yes, cutting a tree's roots can cause it to fall, particularly if major support roots are severed. In extreme cases, trimming roots can affect the tree's structure and stability. Many crucial roots are located just below the soil's surface. If you make severe cuts to roots more than 2 inches in diameter, you risk impacting the tree's water flow and its ability to withstand severe winds or storms. Even cutting roots less than half an inch in diameter under or outside the tree's canopy can cut off its water supply, causing it to decline, die, and eventually topple.

The safest way to cut down a tree is to make sure you’re completely prepared and have done all the necessary safety checks, including double-checking your equipment is in good working order, you have plenty of clearance to fell the tree, you’re wearing all the safety gear, and you have a partner to help you (who should also be wearing safety gear).

Hiring an arborist costs around $900 on average, with prices ranging from $250 to $2,500 or more. Some arborists charge an hourly rate, typically between $100 and $350 per hour. The final cost depends on several factors, including the type of work, the number of trees, accessibility, and whether you hire an independent arborist or a larger tree service company. When hiring, you should also consider their experience and insurance coverage.

Below are some estimated costs for common arborist jobs:

  • Small tree removal: $300 to $500

  • Large tree removal: $500 to $2,000 or more

  • Tree health assessment: $150

  • Trimming a small tree: $75 to $200

  • Trimming a large tree: $150 to $400

  • Dealing with invasive species: $150 to $1,000 or more

Carefully pruning small roots no thicker than three inches in diameter won’t harm the tree. However, cutting larger roots may impact the tree's stability and nutrient absorption. It's advisable to consult an arborist or tree care professional to evaluate the root's size, the tree's health, and the potential impact of cutting. Proper tree pruning techniques and timing can minimize damage, but larger root removal may necessitate expert guidance to avoid compromising the tree's overall health and stability.
