Customers say: Quality work

"Work was done quickly and expertly and carries a 3 year warranty. Cost is based on project not time to preform which sounds like a benefit. I had one electrical outlet installed on outdoor front patio taping power inside right behind new outlet. Parts maybe $50; time on project 40 mins as he also checked two switches at front door too. Cost? $729. My fault I guess. I’m new to Iowa and didnt know the electrical code but I should have done it myself. No complaints about the work though."

Emergency services offered

"Trent from Hoekstra Electric did a great job at installing some new outlets for me in my office in my basement. I had called to inquire about if it would be possible to get outlets in my office and a rough idea on what it would cost. When Trent showed up, he offered to get them installed for me right then and there - totally awesome!! It is been amazing having more spaces to hook my different machines into. Not only was Hoekstra Electric able to get to my issue fast, they were also super kind and very professional. I would definitely recommend them!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Most upgrades take 1-5 days, depending on building size and wiring complexity.

Amps describe the amount of energy that can flow through a circuit breaker. Every electrical device that’s attached to the breaker requires about 1.5 amps. While that equates to roughly 13 receptacles per 20 amps, using slightly fewer ensures that your circuit will always have enough energy for sudden power surges instead of tripping when one occurs. In general, 10 to 12 receptacles is recommended for a 20 amp circuit.

Single-pole switches are simple circuits designed for lower voltages. As such, they don’t require the complex wiring of switches that need to supply power to larger devices and appliances. This is why single-pole switches commonly go in bathrooms, closets, and other small rooms that power a low-watt light fixture. One wire creates the circuit from the power supply, the other goes to the fixture, and the final wire provides safety mechanisms through grounding.

Yes. You can connect your home back-up battery to a generator with its designated charger. Be sure that the output of the generator matches the input requirements for the battery for best results.

An outlet can trip because the circuit it’s on is overloaded, meaning the devices plugged into it are drawing more power than the circuit can safely carry. Another culprit could be because a power surge from a storm or accident caused a problem with your local electrical grid or there’s a short or a fault causing power to run through the circuit in a dangerous or unplanned way.
