"Todd got back to me very quickly on my request for quotes. He happened to have some open time that very afternoon and he gave me a general quote range based on a few "what if's" as I had a multi-job issue with my plumbing needs. I think the total job was a bit more inclusive than Todd might have anticipated but he got right in there and completed the job quickly (especially considering some of the twists we encountered). Todd is a very experienced plumber who worked ho*** ** my job and he is also very cordial and easy to communicate with. I feel great about the job he did and his parting comments..."if anything doesn't seem to be working appropriately, give me a call." I highly recommend Todd's Plumbing."

"My experience with Roto Rooter was first rate. I posted my problem on HomeAdvisor and they contacted me promptly and gave me a couple options - repair or replacement of my water heater. I chose to replace it and Jim was able to locate a good replacement for me and get me scheduled the next day. The Plumbers arrived promptly and had my water heater replaced in about an hour. Even cleaned up well. Thanks Roto-Rooter."

Customers say: True professional

"What an amazing company!! After moving into our house a few months ago we knew we wanted to repaint everything.  After a thorough search on Angie's list and coming across Scott's, I knew that was the only company I wanted in my home, and they have proven to be just as professional as all of the comments and grades suggested.
Quick responses and communication from the initial bid to the final days' work.
The professional job the crew has done has been incredible.  All of the trim and lines (especially at the ceiling) are razor sharp and the work areas are always clean at the end of the day.  This is also a company I have felt completely comfortable with not being at home while they work.
We will be hiring them for many more projects around the house.

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

Completing plumbing projects significantly improves your daily comfort and protects your home from severe IA winters. Insulating pipes in unconditioned spaces prevents burst lines during freezing temperatures. Upgrading your water heater ensures consistent hot water when cold groundwater enters your system. Adding whole-home filtration systems directly addresses seasonal nitrate spikes in the local water supply, providing high-quality drinking water. Upgrading your sump pump also prevents basement water intrusion during spring snowmelt.

Helpful?

Cross-linked polyethylene is the premier choice for interior supply lines because it expands under freezing conditions without cracking during severe IA winters. For underground drains and sewer lines, use heavy-duty polyvinyl chloride to meet state code requirements. When replacing water service lines from the municipal main, select durable copper. Always install properly insulated water heater connections to maintain efficiency against cold incoming groundwater. A local professional will ensure full code compliance.

Helpful?

Homeowners consistently underestimate the depth of the local frost line, which requires extensive excavation for underground plumbing work. Residents also overlook strict municipal permit requirements for standard tasks like water heater replacements. You must factor in coordination time with the city of Johnston to access the street-side main water shutoff. Plan your spring projects in late winter to secure a licensed contractor before peak demand causes long scheduling delays.

Helpful?

Address any signs of pipe sweating or minor leaks in uninsulated spaces immediately before temperatures drop in November. You must also resolve failing water heaters and sump pumps before Johnston experiences harsh winter freezes or heavy spring snowmelt. Conversely, you can schedule interior fixture upgrades or basement rough-ins during off-peak seasons. Always schedule exterior plumbing work between late spring and early fall to avoid digging through deeply frozen ground.

Helpful?

Your home's soil composition and the deep frost depth in Johnston make underground plumbing projects complex. Clay-heavy soil expands and contracts, which shifts pipes. Additionally, older properties feature galvanized steel lines that require special handling. Modifying basement plumbing requires working around existing sump pits and drain tile systems to prevent drainage conflicts. Always consult a licensed contractor to navigate these local challenges and secure the required municipal permits.
