"If you need any type of fence installed or repaired, I suggest you contact A & E Fence. You will not be disappointed! This company provides excellent customer service, offers competitive pricing, and they do fantastic work. I needed my vinyl fence repaired, so I filled out a request for an estimate on the A & E website. I submitted the form on a weekend. On Monday, Eli contacted me and came to my home to prepare the estimate. Within a few days, the crew from A & E Fence were at my home and completed the repairs. My fence looks amazing! A & E employees are very knowledgeable, personable, and they pay attention to detail. They completed the repairs exactly as I requested. When the crew was finished, they did a fantastic job cleaning up the work area. I am very impressed with A & E. I HIGHLY recommend A & E Fence."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

While power washing isn't a requirement before you stain a fence, it can make the job much easier and faster while reducing manual labor requirements. The stain will not work if the wood is full of dirt and dust, so power washing, sometimes called pressure washing, is a fast and effective way to prepare the wood for staining. Remember that you need to stain or repaint relatively soon after the wood has dried so that there isn’t time for dust and dirt to build up again.

Corrugated metal is a strong, long-lasting material. A corrugated metal fence will typically last several decades, and the metal panels themselves may last for 40 to 60 years. The main thing you should be concerned about is the fence posts. Wood fence posts will last about five years if you purchase them untreated or about 15 years if you treat them after installation. Keep an eye on your posts and look out for insect damage and rot.

You can use pressure-treated wood for a horizontal fence, but you’ll need to purchase a thicker and higher-quality variety to ensure it doesn’t sag or warp after you install it. Use #2 pine grade lumber and boards and thicker dimensional lumber, such as a two-by-six. You’ll also need to use stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized fasteners, as the chemicals in the treated lumber will cause regular galvanized fasteners to rust.

Yes, fence posts should be set in concrete to provide the proper support for the fence. If you notice your fence posts leaning, you’ll need to learn how to brace a fence post to fix the problem and prevent further damage from occurring. By bracing a fence post properly, you’ll provide stability and sturdiness to your fence for years to come.

A fence installer or homeowner should place a snow fence upwind of the desired drift area, while keeping the prevailing wind direction in mind. When installing a snow fence, its posts should be sturdy, as they will be the weakest areas in terms of tensile strength. Posts should be buried at one-third their height and placed no more than eight feet apart.
