"Cody was professional and efficient. He had great skill in the water damaged kitchen ceiling that had occurred due to a neighbor's ice maker leaking through to my ceiling from upstairs. "I had multiple small drywall repairs from door handles, kids being rough on the walls, and a few nails that were poking out from the drywall making holes. The texture on the walls and ceiling match almost perfectly and without knowing a repair was done I really don't think anyone would notice. When fixing up the drywall I had mentioned wanting to add a few small shelves added in the living room. Dylan said he also took on some wood working projects and would be happy to make and install a set of shelves for me in the living room. They look even better than I thought they would. They are beautiful, unique, and exactly what we had talked about. He is very personable, answered my questions quickly and respectfully, and made me feel comfortable each step of the way. "A big storm in March caused what seemed to be a pretty big leak in my roof. Kole was able to show up the very next day, locate the issue quickly and fix the problem . He then checked the rest of my roof without being asked and performed some preventative maintenance to avoid similar issues in the future. It is now June and we have experienced no additional leaking."

The amount of drywall you need for a 1,000-square-foot basement depends on the ceiling height, angles, number of doors and windows, and more. To find the wall square footage, multiply the width and height of each wall, minus any gaps from windows or doors, and add the totals together. You’ll also need enough drywood nails or screws to install the drywall correctly.

You can put drywall mud over paint to even out the surface or entirely resurface it. Sand the surface with 280-grit sandpaper, vacuum the debris and dust with a shop vac, and clean it with a slightly damp cloth. Allow the surface to dry. Apply drywall primer, especially if you’re skim-coating an entire wall. Apply the right type of drywall mud over the surface and smooth it with a trowel. Allow the layer to cure fully, then sand it before applying another layer or painting it.

Whether you apply the drywall mesh before or after drywall mud depends on the type of patch it is. For self-adhesive patches, you’ll put the patch down first and then coat it with mud. Mesh patches that are not self-adhesive will require you to put mud down first and then press the mesh into it, followed by additional coats of mud.

The easiest way to cut holes in drywall for electrical boxes is to use a spiral saw with a drywall router bit. Hang the drywall without cutting out a hole for the box, but make sure you measure and mark where the box is located on the wall. Once you screw in the drywall sheet, drill a small hole into the box void, insert the spiral saw bit, and move it around the edge of the box using the inside wall as a guide. You can also use an oscillating multi-tool with an electrical box cutout for fast, professional results.

There shouldn’t be any gaps between your walls and ceiling. These can be fixed with joint compound but that is only a fix, and it’s much better if your drywall fits correctly in the first place. Sometimes gaps can appear if your foundation shifts significantly but if this is the case, you have a much bigger problem than patching drywall.
