"Vince and his team were extremely responsive to my concerns about health complications due to mold. They safely removed the mold using containment, negative air/air scrubbers, removal of the drywall that had the mold on it, and carpet removal all through my basement window (to avoid cross-contamination). They also removed any furniture that I requested to be taken away. The team sprayed the area where the mold was, cleaned the entire basement with hepa vacuums and wiped down the entire basement. Vince responded to my many questions and concerns extremely quickly either by phone or visits to the house. I have reached out to him several times for advice and questions about other areas in the home since the remediation and he always gets back to me. Vince has been a reliable resource. I recommend Iowa Mold Removal to safely remove mold from your home. Vince is a pleasure to work with during a stressful time."

"Tony is very knowledgeable and meticulous. We had to hire a mold specialist after a home inspection revealed mold in our furnace closet. Tony was very sensitive to our concerns about safe removal. Tony freely and thoroughly advised us of the dangers. He provided us with a detailed report and offered us ongoing consultations free of charge."

"We recently moved into our home and had felt that the air quality was poor and the vents needed to be cleaned. We were experiencing new allergies and chronic congestion. Jami was excellent when explaining the services and pricing, Dillon and team worked very hard to clean our entire system. After the requested cleaning, they showed before and after pictures of each vent/main. Dillon discovered mold in the furnace and in basement vents. The team stayed later than expected to add sanitation and furnace cleaning. All at an extremely reasonable price. We notice a big difference in our air quality in our house! We all feel better and deal with a lot less dusting when cleaning the house."

"I called Cooley Drywall on approximately 9/10/12 to ask for an estimate for ceiling texture repairs. I let him know that we were on a short timeline, and that we needed to have the work done as soon as possible. He came to do an estimate within a couple of days. He seemed very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. We received an estimate immediately.
We ended up hiring another company because the estimate we received was significantly less than the one from Cooley. We would consider hiring Cooley in the future, provided price was something we felt was reasonable.

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Pressure-treated wood offers some protection from the elements but doesn’t protect against mold. However, if you spot mold growing on pressure-treated wood, it doesn’t indicate rot or an interior fungal infection—the treatment process ensures that the mold stays on the exterior. Keep the wood dry, but if you spot some mold, remove it immediately and clean the area.

No. When dry, mold enters a dormant state. While “sleeping,” the mold won’t multiply, but when it encounters moisture again, it springs back to life, releasing spores. That's why it's crucial to not only control humidity but also actively eliminate mold to prevent its resurgence and further growth inside your home.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), hazardous waste is generally classified into four main categories:

1. Characteristic Wastes: These exhibit at least one of four hazardous traits: ignitability (flammable, like gasoline), corrosivity (can rust or decompose materials, like car batteries), reactivity (unstable and can explode, like aerosol cans), or toxicity (harmful when ingested, like lead-based paint).

2. Listed Wastes: These are specific wastes from manufacturing and industrial processes that the EPA has officially designated as hazardous. They include byproducts from processes that use solvents, pesticides, and other chemicals.

3. Universal Wastes: These are commonly generated hazardous items that are subject to streamlined regulations. Examples include batteries, pesticides, mercury-containing equipment (e.g., bulbs), and some lamps.

4. Mixed Wastes: This category includes waste that contains both hazardous and radioactive components, making it subject to regulation by both the EPA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Many peel-and-stick wallpapers aren’t moisture-resistant, so if you install them in high-humidity rooms, mold can grow behind the wallpaper. It’s best to reserve peel-and-stick wallpaper for bedrooms, living rooms, and other rooms with lower humidity levels. Not only does this minimize the risk of mold growth, but it also keeps the wallpaper from bubbling or peeling.

According to the EPA, mold allergies are common and can cause skin irritation, respiratory problems, headaches, and other allergic reactions. Mold allergies can also trigger asthma attacks in people with asthma. Additionally, some molds produce mycotoxins, which can lead to very serious conditions, like lung cancer.
