"The call was returned promptly and service set up quickly. The service rep was there on time. I admit that I did not tell him I was working myself (laptop in tow) and that now was not the time for a whole-house inspection. I had asked for the replacement of a ceiling light fixture and replacement of a bathroom exhaust fan. He inspected the entire house and proceeded to create 3 separate estimates, only one of which was for the work I had asked to have done. When finally presented with the estimates, I chose not to spend the $400+ to replace the bathroom fan. I did ask him to only replace the ceiling light fixture in the kitchen. (So, new estimate.) The replacement itself took less than 5 minutes, and cost $161.00. I actually have no issue with the cost of the fixture replacement. I am willing to pay for his experience and time. My frustration was the time I spent waiting for him to work up estimates for the various things he found during the inspection that ideally should be replaced at some juncture. I would have been happy if he had simply presented me with a list of things that might need to be addressed at some point, since there were none that prohibited him from doing the work I wished done. So the bottom line is what should have been a 15 minute visit extended to an hour simply because of all the estimating."

"Dan's Affordable Electric completely transformed my kitchen! They tore out old fluorescent ceiling fixture, installed 8 ceilings can LED fixtures, installed motion sensor lighting underneath kitchen cabinets, inside our pantry (wow!), inside two closets, lighting above our kitchen cabinet to the ceiling and installed subway tiles as a backsplash! We are thrilled! End of each day, they vacuumed the floor and polished countertops! Highly recommend!! Outstanding!!"

"Installed a 42 inch door with wheelchair threshold to accommodate husband wheelchair easier. Previous door was 36 inches and a tight first for chair. Excellent job. Also installed some towel hangers in bathroom and repaired a drywall damage from a ceiling light taken down. Very pleased with work."

Bathroom Fan Installation questions, answered by experts

The square footage of your room will dictate the correct ceiling fan blade size. For example:

  • Rooms smaller than 75 square feet require a fan that is 29 to 36 inches.

  • Rooms up to 175 square feet require 42- to 48-inch fans.

  • Rooms up to 350 square feet require 52- to 56-inch fans.

  • Expansive spaces over 350 square feet need a fan larger than 60 inches.

It is unlikely that a ceiling fan will fall, even if it develops a wobble. During a proper installation, ceiling fans are securely bolted to a ceiling joist, and the fasteners used for mounting are generally separate from the components related to balancing. A wobble is typically caused by an imbalance, which can be annoying and may lead to other issues, but is not usually dangerous on its own.

However, if a fan is wobbling because it was not installed correctly, it could be at risk of falling. For safety, it's always a good idea to ensure all mounting screws are tight and to address any wobbling or imbalance issues promptly.

A ceiling fan can become unbalanced for several reasons. Common causes include an accumulation of dust and dirt on the blades, which adds uneven weight. Over time, hardware like screws and fasteners can loosen due to wear on the blade holders. Other potential issues are damaged or bent blades or blade arms, worn-down parts, or an incorrect initial installation.

A blower and a fan serve different functions, so whether a blower versus a fan is better depends on what you need. If you need to heat or warm your home, it’s important that the HVAC blower is in good working condition. If you want to prevent an AC unit from overheating, make sure to keep up-to-date on condenser fan maintenance.

Most duct booster fans are not designed to run continuously, though some models can be programmed for constant operation. Typically, they are controlled by the user via a switch, controls on the unit itself, or by being wired to the HVAC system's thermostat. Wiring the fan to a thermostat allows it to run automatically only when heating or cooling is active, which saves energy and is an effective way to activate the fan only when needed to address issues like uneven room temperatures.
