"The service I received was exemplary other than a delay imposed by the Labor Day holiday weekend. I had detected a potential leak in the water line to the house after noticing a portion of my lawn was saturated. I called the leak in on Thursday morning before the Labor Day weekend, and Mathew Thatcher arrived within two hours. He cut off the water and spent the next few hours tracing water and sewage lines into the house and detecting the probable source of the leak. He went out of his way to minimize the potential cost of this tracing operation. In addition he performed a number of minor interior repairs that I had delayed performing. These included replacement of a rusting garbage disposal and repair of a recently developed toilet leak. My only possible caveat was the fact that the full repair could not be done until the following Tuesday. However, we got by turning the main water line on and off (using a key loaned to us by Mr. Thatcher) when water was needed. The leak was repaired on Tuesday after ripping up a small portion of the driveway and replacing a cracked plastic connector (undoubtedly an earlier repair to the line done many years ago) with copper piping, installing a sewer line clean out and water line cut off inside the house and repairing the driveway. I would like to particularly single out Mr. Thatcher for his helpfulness, complete explanations of potential problems and options at each step of the way, and focus on finding the least expensive method of completing an inevitably costly repair."

"They were able to come out the next morning after I called. They were on time and did a great job. My septic was backed up. They pumped it and flushed the lines. Very professional and reasonably priced. I would definitely use Flush Pro again."

"Great! Plumber used shoe coverings and was super polite. The job needed a part replaced in the tank, the part was on the truck and was installed quickly. Will definitely use this company again!"

"Jean Claude and his crew did a fantastic job. His proposal for the project, although not the cheapest, was very reasonably priced and met all our criteria. We removed the original deck ourselves before even looking for a contractor. The new deck is twice as large as the original and includes a flight of stairs. Jean Claude did a fantastic job on the stairs. Rather than have them go straight down two stories, Jean Claude put in a landing and used a grooved board on the actual steps. He also made the stairs wider than a standard flight which gives the stairs a very grand appearance. During installation, Jean Claude and his crew found a large section of rotten wood running along the house. They spent an entire day identifying the extent of the wood rot and replacing it all. The actual deck is very well made and solid. No swaying like our older deck. Jean Claude hand picked the wood for the project and even rejected a number of pieces that were accidentally sent to the job site because they did not meet his criteria."

"Scheduling the appointment was quick and efficient
and Rob came out this afternoon to do the work. He was very courteous
and professional and after completing the job he gave me some good tips
on what can and cannot be put into the garbage disposal.
I also had Rob give me an estimate to replace an 18 year old gas water heater.
Based on my experience with the garbage disposal replacement I'll be on
the lookout for another Big Deal from American Freedom so I can hire them
for that job too.
Excellent overall experience so I have nothing but positive comments.

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

If your garbage disposal powers up and you can hear it hum, but the arms inside aren’t moving, the problem might be a stubborn clog, a build-up of grease, or a jam of the impeller plate. To troubleshoot these, ensure your unit is off and disconnected from its power source before checking inside the drain or attempting to manually rotate the impeller arms or plate from the underside of the unit. A hex wrench can help.

Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.

Once you have your garbage disposal disconnected, you can remove the mounting bracket by unscrewing the bolts that are holding the bracket. You can back them out just enough to pop off the snap ring, which prevents the bottom portion of the bracket from disconnecting from the top when you unscrew the bolts. Use a regular screwdriver to pop off the snap ring, and the rest of the components should fall off by themselves.

On average, a garbage disposal can last anywhere from 7 to 12 years, with many models functioning well for about 10 years. With heavy usage, a motor may last a minimum of five years, while grinding plates will wear down over time. It's generally a good idea to consider a replacement if your unit is approaching the 10-year mark. Other signs that it's time for a new disposal include frequent leaks, persistent clogs, lingering odors, lack of power, or unusual noises. If your unit is not that old, it's worth investigating if a less expensive part, like a rubber seal or a loose hose, is causing the issue.

The main issue with garbage disposals is clogging. This can mean a clogging of the pipes that expel the food along with water, or a clogging of the mechanical parts themselves. The problem lies in the solution because you can’t easily see clogs if they’re inside the system, and reaching in to dislodge stuck items is a risky proposal. Call a pro and ask what they would do, but if you can’t see the clog easily, and running the unit won’t free it, you need to let a professional handle the fix.
