"We have used Robert at Tree Works unlimited several times over the last 15 years or so, always with excellent results at a fair price. I usually don’t write reviews, however this job was so much more complex I felt I had to share. We had an enormous 80 foot tall, 45 inch diameter tall white oak tree at the base of our front porch steps, about 5’ from the roof of our house that was starting to show signs of decay. If this tree had fallen it could have taken out our entire house and us as well. I was sad (I Love trees) and very anxious the night before the removal and didn’t sleep at all. Robert, Marcus and their crew quickly lessened my anxiety by their amazing skills, professionalism, extreme safety protocols, and kindness to each other during this difficult task. The climber was up in the tree cutting and lowering tree sized branches through a complex rope and pulley system for almost four hours if that gives you any sense of scale. There were six crew members at the base and they communicated to each other by radios in their safety helmets. It was amazing to watch them work and my anxiety lessened bit by bit as this monster tree was lowered to the ground, piece by piece. A round of applause and a big sigh of relief when all of the branches (100 or more) and the climber was down. There is a small dogwood tree just at the base of this tree and they couldn’t promise by tried hard and went out of their way to save it for us. Only one small branch was broken and the climber clipped it and shaped the tree for us on his way down. That is one happy little tree. The next day, they were back to finish cutting down the trunk and hauling it away. Again, we were impressed with their extreme skill and attention to safety. It was several large loads of huge tree stumps. We are so relieved to have this potential house crasher removed. My sadness and guilt were greatly lessened as there was rot starting at the base of the trunk and a huge carpenter ant colony in a rotted area off one of the huge main branches. Robert pointed this out and also sent me pictures, again attesting to their high level of customer service and satisfaction. We also had them remove several more potential house crashers while they were here. Sorry for the long post but once again Thank you Robert, Marcus and crew for an excellent job. We would highly recommend Tree Works to anyone needing trees removed."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Dutch elm disease can’t harm humans. In fact, according to Cal Fire, bark beetles aren’t even typically dangerous to trees unless that tree is already weakened. The problem comes when Dutch elm disease kills a tree. That tree is more at risk of falling and catching fire, which can pose a serious threat.

The typical lifespan of a Bradford pear is relatively short, only 15 to 25 years. However, these trees have issues long before their life is over. Due to their soft wood and fast-growing branches, Bradford pear trees often split around 15 years, making them a risk for falling branches and more prone to disease.

Leaving a tree stump in the ground poses several potential issues. Firstly, stumps can become a breeding ground for pests like termites or ants, which might spread to nearby healthy trees or structures. They can also attract fungi or diseases that could affect other plants nearby. Stumps left unattended could hinder future landscaping plans, obstructing new growth or making it challenging to mow. Additionally, as the stump decays, it might sprout new shoots, leading to unwanted tree growth. Removing stumps prevents these problems, enhancing the aesthetic and safety of the landscape.

Any tree that needs to be pruned should be pruned to remove dead branches at least once a year. You may need to prune far more often if you’re trying to maintain a certain shape or to save a tree that suddenly becomes infected.

The ideal depth of a tree notch depends on the tree, but it should usually be between 20% and 25% of the tree’s depth. However, if the tree is leaning towards the direction of the notch, it can be cut more shallowly—at as little as 10% of the depth. When the tree is leaning away from the direction it needs to be felled, you can cut deeper, closer to 30%.
