"John Morris came out the same day I called and was very professional in the quoting and job completion. His work is excellent and he was so nice. He and his helper had to remove incorrectly installed backsplash tiles by another contractor and replace with new ones in a master (large) bath and guest bath. He even picked up the tile for me and brought it to the job. I would highly recommend his work. We have actually asked for quotes on a deck roof and other smaller jobs. I will definitely keep him on speed dial!!"

"I’ve used WiseWorks to redo a small bathroom, put up insulation and drywall in my garage and build a paver patio in my yard. All work was done in a timely and well done manner for a fair price. Highly recommend working with them."

"We had our entire home tiled with ceramic porcelain tile, and we could not be happier with the results! From the very first meeting for the estimate, we immediately felt a sense of trust—he was honest, professional, and cared about our vision. While we were away on vacation, he went above and beyond to make sure the job was done right. He kept us updated throughout the process, sending us progress reports and making sure every detail was handled with care. His customer service is outstanding, and the quality of his workmanship truly shows. It’s not easy to find someone you can completely trust to work in your home while you’re away, but he exceeded our expectations in every way. The floors turned out beautifully, and we couldn’t be more grateful for his dedication and honesty. Highly recommend! Thank you! Mr & Mrs McCart"

Small jobs welcome

"In order to brighten my living room during the day, I decided to have a storm door installed over the existing front door. Ben and Sam came and started to work quickly. They worked persistently on the door until it was properly fitted, replacing locks as needed to mesh with the existing door. I am very pleased with the result. I surely will call them again when I need something else done."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Glazed ceramic tiles don’t need to be sealed because the glazing already offers some protection against moisture. Unglazed ceramic tiles need to be sealed to keep the porous tile safe from moisture and staining. However, both types of tile can benefit from sealing. Sealant can make the tiles easier to keep clean and offer more resistance to water, spills, and stains.

Like glass tiles, you will not need to seal most porcelain tiles, particularly if the porcelain is already glazed. It depends on quality. Porcelain is very water resistant, but it is not 100% waterproof. To avoid staining, some homeowners use a penetrating sealer. It is also a good idea to seal your grout. Unless you use epoxy grout, grout is very porous and can harbor bacteria, mold, and mildew.

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are made from clay, but porcelain tiles are fired in a kiln at a higher temperature. This makes them more durable, but it also means porcelain is more expensive than ceramic at $3 to $5 more per square foot.

Even with the higher price point, many people choose porcelain over ceramic because there are more color and design options.

The reasons not to install flooring underneath a bathtub outweigh the benefits. A properly installed bathtub will keep water from reaching the unprotected subfloor underneath. Installing a tub on top of finished flooring can lead to damage and scratches to the new floor. Also, a small leak from a tub drain may be more difficult to notice if finished flooring impedes water drips.

Figure out how much tile you need by measuring the backsplash area. Measure the height and length in feet and multiply to get the square footage. Don’t make adjustments for outlets or small cutouts but subtract the square footage for windows or other large obstructions from the total. To account for waste, get 10% more than your calculation.
