"Will and his guys came in and repaired several areas of bad subfloor and installed all new laminate tile flooring. Very reasonable pricing, fast response, and overall just couldnâ t ask for a better experience in refurbishing my floors. He did so well with the flooring I also hired him a year later to redo my kitchen. Couldnâ t be happier with either. Itâ s been 3 years since the first job and it still looks like he did it all yesterday."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

If you hire a professional to install a new floor, you can expect to pay between $50 and $75 per hour for labor. It takes two days on average to install a new floor as part of a bathroom remodeling project, but your timeline depends on your bathroom’s size and layout.

Figure out how much tile you need by measuring the backsplash area. Measure the height and length in feet and multiply to get the square footage. Don’t make adjustments for outlets or small cutouts but subtract the square footage for windows or other large obstructions from the total. To account for waste, get 10% more than your calculation.

Ceramic tile adheres best with premixed adhesive or mortar. If you’re installing the tile in an area with moisture, such as a bathroom or kitchen, opt for waterproof adhesive, and if you choose mortar, make sure it’s thick because that is the easiest to work with and ensures the tiles will sit flat.

It’s best to start with tiling the shower floor before moving on to the walls for the most visually-pleasing results. When taking on any tiling project, you’ll want the wall tiles to “sit” neatly on the floor tiles rather than overlapping them. Finishing your floor tiles first will allow you to place your wall tiles without any gaps, holes, or awkward intersections.

The reasons not to install flooring underneath a bathtub outweigh the benefits. A properly installed bathtub will keep water from reaching the unprotected subfloor underneath. Installing a tub on top of finished flooring can lead to damage and scratches to the new floor. Also, a small leak from a tub drain may be more difficult to notice if finished flooring impedes water drips.
