"I hired Middle GA Roofing to replace my roof. However, when the job was completed by one of their so called “crews” (a group of undocumented underpaid contract workers) who had no real affiliation or branding with MGR, I discovered that an entire flat section of the roof had been left untouched and not replaced. I was told this was because their salesperson had not ordered the correct materials at the time of installation. In addition, the workmanship on the roof was poor. Photos will show multiple issues, including the fact that the required by-code drip edge was missing in many places — and none was installed anywhere gutters were present. That is not a minor oversight but a basic code requirement. Five years later, that old section is now leaking into my office. When I contacted the company, the initial quote I received to fix it was roughly $2500 25% of the cost of a full roof replacement. This seemed very high for an issue that stemmed from their own admitted mistake. So I contacted the owner and let him know that seemed unreasonable and that I would rather fix it myself but that since this was his resolution I would be leaving a review. He told me me getting this quote was a “mistake” but since I threatened him with a review he was no longer interested in any resolution unless I apologized. My correspondence was directly with the owner of the company. You will likely never meet him in person, but from my experience he has a tendency to deflect responsibility for mistakes made by his company, placing the cost back onto the customer. I even offered to cover the cost of materials if they would correct their own oversight, but that offer was declined. Instead, I was told to “just post a review” and that no further communication would be made unless I apologized. How strange that a man of his age has an ego so fragile that it needs an apology to do the right thing. As a business owner myself, I believe accountability and communication are essential. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. I will be repairing the roof myself, but I feel it’s important to share photos of the workmanship and a record of my experience so that others can make an informed decision before hiring this company."

Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

It’s possible to use a torch to melt ice on your garage door, but we don’t recommend it. It’s very easy to bring the flame too close to the door, which can melt the weather stripping or even the garage door itself. You’ll melt ice quickly with a torch, but the damage you’re likely to cause can end up costing you a few hundred dollars to fix, which isn’t worth it. Instead, we recommend pouring hot water over the frozen area or using a less intense heat source, like a hair dryer or space heater.

The average cost of a snow removal service is around $85, but this depends heavily on the amount of snow, your location, and the seasonal demand. An annual snow removal contract will typically cost between $200 and $600 for the season. Keep in mind that single services are usually based on the amount of snow, with every six inches adding to your total. You can expect to pay between $40 and $200 in most cases or as high as $500 or more for excessive snowfall. In many cases, it’s more affordable to enter into an annual contract.

Knocking down icicles won’t help prevent ice dams, as the dams form on the bottoms of your roof slopes and not on the gutters themselves. However, removing icicles can reduce the risk of injury if they form over heavily trafficked areas, and it can help prevent permanent damage to your gutters. Just be sure to wear safety equipment and always stay on the ground while knocking them down.

The best time to buy a snow blower is typically around May to early June. This is when most manufacturers introduce new models, and quantities are limited—once early summer rolls around, the focus shifts to lawn mower production. As the new models are released, you may find a wider selection of models, potential discounts or clearance sales on older models, and greater availability, ensuring you are well-prepared for the upcoming winter season.

Snowblowers come in three different sizes: first-, second-, and third-stage blowers. Each additional stage is larger with higher intakes, more powerful, and has more gear options.

A first-stage blower, also called a snow thrower, is usually best for snow 6 to 8 inches or below. Electric snow blowers are usually only available in this size. If you regularly get snow that’s well above six inches, consider a second-stage snow blower. If snowstorms dump 2 to 3 feet of snow repeatedly during winter, you need a third-stage snow blower to tackle it.
