"Awesome Job and very Professional. I had a previous pond builder do a terrible job even installed a used pump(no warranty). John came out and tried to repair my pump and but had to replace it with a new one after the clean out. He did such a great job they even found fish hiding I thought were dead and gone. My pond looks amazing once again and the fish are much happier. Thanks patriotic ponds. See you soon."

"Josh and his team implemented a front yard design reminiscent of a Zen garden. They had to completely rebuild two sets of steps and a retaining wall. The concrete work is incredible. The entire plan is lovely to behold and soothing. The lighting used beautifully showcases the home and it is a respite at the end of the day to pull into the driveway and see the lights beckoning me home. We have had so many compliments on the final result, but also important is that the process was very organized and they tried very hard not to inconvenience us. They cleaned things up each day and we were amazed at how hard they worked, no matter the weather or the day of the week. We also felt they were trustworthy and we did not have any complaints whatsoever! Great asset to our area. I would highly recommend Josh."

Fountains questions, answered by experts

One reason you may want to fill in your pond is the cost of maintenance. Pond cleaning may cost about $1,000 for an annual cleanup, or monthly visits may cost $75 to $100 per visit. If you don’t want to spend that much per year on pond upkeep, you may consider filling in your pond.

Even if you empty your pond before the winter, there’s a good chance it will refill naturally. It’s ideal in most cases, then, to leave water in your pond and winterize it instead. This method will prevent ice damage and protect wildlife. Plus, it’ll lessen the steps required to reopen your pond in the spring.

Lifespans vary by material and manufacturer, but pond liners last anywhere from 10 to 75 years. For example, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pond liners have a life expectancy of up to 20 years. Other types of pond liners, including those made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), can last 40 to 50 years.

How many fish can call your pond home depends on the volume of the pond and the fish size. Your pond's filtration system also influences the number of fish that will thrive in a pond. A general rule of thumb is to have 1 inch of fish for every square foot in a pond that's 2 feet deep. Another rule of thumb you can follow is to have one koi fish for every 200 gallons of water or two goldfish for every 200 gallons.

Backyard water features can add serenity to your property, drown out neighborhood noise, and serve as a focal point to a stunning landscape design. In some cases, a properly installed and maintained water feature can add to your home’s value. Just be sure to check with your insurance company before installation since some features may affect your premiums.
