"Radon level in basement was too high so we hired SWAT to put in an exhaust fan and pipe to release excess radon gas. This was done to rectify a problem with home inspection; then house sold and we moved."

"We highly recommend Steve Hicks to inspect your new home construction! Steve is extremely professional and knowledgeable. He provided us with a detailed report at the end of the day that included drone shots of the roof and area surrounding the house, multiple interior photos and videos, heat sensing images to highlight inadequate insulation that could result in loss of energy, and resources that provided additional information for each item he listed in the report. He spent several hours at the house and was very thorough. When he finished the inspection, he spent time with us to discuss his findings. On top of all of that, Steve is personable and a pleasure to do business with!"

"We had to do some testing after a flood in our bathroom. Glenn talked me through the entire process/was very knowledgeable and put our minds at ease. Our test came back negative thankfully. I would recommend everyone use TRG. They are informative, fast to respond, and more affordable compared to other similar companies in the area I called."

Radon Detection and Reduction questions, answered by experts

A homeowner can install a radon mitigation system on their own. But it’s a challenging DIY that requires a lot of knowledge about radon mitigation as well as familiarity with local regulations. You do not want to risk an improper installation that leaves the system unable to detect radon or gives it a shortened life span. Relying on a professional is the surest way to guarantee a successful installation.

The cost for a radon mitigation system typically ranges from $800 to $1,500, with an average around $1,000. The final price depends on several factors, including the size of your home, the severity of the radon issue, and the type of system required. Your home's foundation type also significantly impacts the cost. For example, sealing and ventilating an unfinished basement might cost around $4,600, while encapsulating a crawl space without a foundation slab can range from $1,500 to $15,000.

No level of radon is technically safe, but since it is present everywhere, complete avoidance is impossible. The average radon level in homes across the United States is 1.3 picocuries per liter (pCi/L). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends taking preventative measures if your home's radon levels are between 2 and 4 pCi/L or higher.

Your radon fan needs to operate 24/7 to be effective. The only time the fan isn't operating is during its replacement. Radon levels in the home can increase within hours if the fan stops working or something obstructs the stack vent. Fortunately, radon systems require no downtime maintenance between fan changes.

The average radon mitigation system uses about 876 kWh of electricity per year, although the exact amount of electricity used will vary depending on the size of the radon fan. Once the system is installed, the annual increase to your energy bill could range from $30 to $300 per year, again depending on the size of the fan.
