"This was a very extensive project that I spent months researching, hired an engineer for his professional guidance, and accepted bids from four companies. Two of the other companies were cheaper but proposed to use synthetic foam materials, which don't have a long enough track record for my comfort. Once the job started, the crews worked with great diligence, and despite the numerous difficulties they encountered, I never heard a single complaint. Total work time was 14 days over a three-week period that include Independence Day. Total cost was about $40k"

"We had previously hired someone to waterproof our basement but it severely failed. Once AFS came and accessed the crawl space, they implemented a new system. Our crawl space is amazing now and the team Quadarrius, Jovian, and Dallas were professional, informative, and proficient! Colt my representative walked me through everything before during and after! I love this company and recommend their services to anyonet!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

In Columbus, unexpected costs during masonry projects can include addressing hidden foundation cracks from shifting clay soil, repairing water damage behind brick facades, or replacing corroded steel supports. Homes in historic areas may require custom brick matching or specialized stonework. Additional expenses can arise from permit requirements, soil stabilization, or restoring landscaping disturbed during the masonry work process.

Helpful?

Homes in Columbus are strong candidates for masonry work if you see stair-step cracks in brick walls, crumbling mortar, or white staining (efflorescence) on exterior surfaces. Properties in older neighborhoods like Midtown or near the Chattahoochee River often need brick repair due to shifting clay soil and moisture. If your home was built before 1960, regular inspections for masonry issues are especially important.

Helpful?

Investing in masonry work in Columbus can enhance your home’s value and curb appeal, especially in historic districts where brick and stone features are prized. Projects like chimney restoration, foundation repair, or adding stone veneer make your property stand out to buyers seeking durability and classic Southern style. Well-maintained masonry also signals proper upkeep, which is attractive in Columbus’s competitive real estate market.

Helpful?

In Columbus, masonry work is most often scheduled from late March through early November. This timing avoids winter’s rare freezes, which can weaken mortar bonds, and the intense summer humidity that slows brick repair and stone veneer installation. Spring and fall offer steady temperatures and fewer rain delays, helping mortar cure properly and reducing the risk of weather-related setbacks for your project.

Helpful?

For masonry work in Columbus, schedule tasks during cooler parts of the day to prevent heat stress, especially in summer. Secure scaffolding to withstand sudden thunderstorms, and cover fresh mortar if rain is forecast. Homes built before 1980 may have lead paint or asbestos, so proper containment and protective gear are crucial. Always control dust and ensure safe handling of heavy materials to protect both workers and residents.
