Small jobs welcome

"George is a pleasure to work with....dependable, pleasant, patient, and a great listener. He's fair, shows up, and does good work; what more could we ask for? George did both carpentry and tile installation for us. We picked a tough tile pattern for an oddly shaped/angled room, and he did a beautiful job. He has great attention to detail and helped us solve all sorts of quirky problems to make things look their best. He has been patient with supply delays, helpful with trouble shooting as we make decisions, and good at helping us think through things to make good choices through our renovation. We had searched for months for the tile we wanted and had finally purchased one we could tolerate. When George found out we didn't love it, the night before he was supposed to start laying it, he referred us to a tile source that had exactly what we wanted...and was so patient in the delay that caused. Gotta love that kind of integrity! He's the best tiler we've used and is making our new trim look lovely. He's our new "go to guy" for all things home. Hire him....just not at the same time I need him at my house. :) I'm putting George on speed dial."

"It went very well. Jorge does estimates, he comes on time, he comes back if things need to be fixed and all the grass grew. Jorge‘s easy to work with. He’s got a great team. He had to totally relandscaped my front yard to plant the grass. And he’s got the machines and everything went smoothly. I definitely would hire him again. In fact, I’ve hired him three times."

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Options include concrete, stone, brick, and wood, tailored for specific design needs.

Rebar is a steel support that goes inside concrete to prevent structural damage over time. Concrete is susceptible to impact, weight, and tension. By inserting rebar into the concrete during the installation, you can help extend its lifespan and avoid hazardous situations where the foundation of your home gives way to tensile forces.

Costs range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on size, material, and design complexity.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Yes, to build a retaining wall, a permit is required. Similarly, any repairs or modifications to an existing retaining wall require permits. If the planned wall measures higher than 4 feet, most municipalities require designs and permits come through a licensed engineer. In some locations, if the wall is shorter than 4 feet, a permit may not be required. For the requirements in your area, contact your local government.
