"From my consultant Latoya, to the installers, Douglas and Johnny, this was a great experience! They were all very professional. Latoya was patient while I was trying to make a decision on the new carpet. Douglas and Johnny were on time and came in and got the job done quickly. They removed the old carpet, put down new padding and carpet. The new carpet feels so good under my barefeet! I would use Empire again, and would recommend them for your flooring needs,"

"Wonderful! Quick, high quality work of art! I am amazed! Everything I asked for he went above and beyond! He stayed in touch with me through the whole process and made sure it was what I wanted. I had gutted the entire bathroom and they came in to do my shower. He placed the ceramic tile, added a bench and a niche, 4ft wall and moved my drain to the center. Every inch of my shower looks amazing and he went above and beyond what I asked. I would definitely recommend this professional crew and the work they do!"

"Lee (Dodley), the owner, came with several toolboxes of specialty devices and tools specifically built for carpet-stretching. He showed us why the carpet had a sizable 'hump' in the middle of the floor, moved furniture as needed to stretch carpeting in two rooms, and then expertly stretched the humps out of the carpet. He really knows his craft, was careful to prevent damage, and did the cleanup afterwards. He was fast, and charged a fair price. Carpet looks great now, and he guaranteed his work. A true professional start to finish!"

"They were able to meet our installation start date on short notice. The tile tech arrived at the job early and worked tirelessly until the job was completed. He was personable and asked questions before he started to work. The quality of the tile work was excellent and the job was completed much sooner than we anticipated. I highly recommend this company and will definitely hire them again. More than a five star co.pany!!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

There are no unbreakable rules of design, but experts recommend against using large tiles in areas with poor subflooring where they’re more prone to cracking, in areas where the floor isn’t entirely level, over raised areas or dips, and in bathrooms where budget is the primary concern. The size of your bathroom shouldn’t be a reason not to use large tiles; in fact, larger tiles, also known as slab tiles, can be a modern and sleek choice for bathroom floors and walls.

When choosing between porcelain and ceramic tile, the best option depends on your specific needs, budget, and project application. Porcelain tile is generally more durable, denser, and harder than ceramic, making it a good choice for busy, high-traffic areas. It also offers superior moisture resistance, making it ideal for moisture-retaining spaces. However, porcelain is typically more expensive, and its hardness can make it brittle, potentially causing it to crack if a heavy object is dropped on it. In contrast, ceramic tile is a more budget-friendly option with lower material and installation costs. It is softer and easier to work with, making it a great choice for DIY projects. While not as durable as porcelain, ceramic is still a quality material suitable for many home applications, particularly small, decorative projects.

Yes, your shower pan goes underneath your tiling and helps prevent excess water from seeping into the floor. Without the shower pan under your tile, water will seep through the grout and into the flooring. This will eventually lead to mold growth and serious water damage that could cost thousands of dollars to fix.

Yes, but you should only put tile directly on drywall in smaller areas that don’t experience excess moisture. For example, a small kitchen tile backsplash could work, but installing tile directly on the drywall in a bathroom or other chronically damp area is not a good idea. Either way, a cement backer board is a far more reliable solution, as drywall is susceptible to moisture and can warp or cause your tiles to crack.

Granite countertops cost an average of $3,250 compared to $2,250 for tile countertops. Granite is also harder to DIY than tile, given its weight and bulk, which increases the overall labor cost of installation. Over time, both types of countertops may need sealing to remain resistant to water, heat, and other common kitchen elements.
