"Thank you, Curt, for your time & attention today with a wood burning fireplace & chimney inspection in SW Gainesville. In addition to providing a thorough report of your findings, you jumped on a call with my family (on a Saturday eve, no less) to further explain things and ensure we understood the scope of your work and the level of detail you put into the inspection process. Thank you for your service today and we look forward to using your agency for regular maintenance after getting peace of mind from you today that we passed the inspection and have a working, operable and now clean fireplace & chimney."

"His inspection turned up a water leak in the chimney that could have entered the walls if not caught in time. The original home inspection prior to purchasing the home wasn't as thorough. Sweep Across the Bay went up on the roof and discovered that the chimney cap was missing (can't be seen from the ground), which had probably blown off during one or more storms."

"I had Chimney Sweep Pros come out to clean our dryer vent, and I?m so glad I chose them! They were punctual, professional, and did a very thorough job. They showed me the buildup that had been causing longer drying times and explained how important it is for preventing fire hazards ? something I hadn?t even realized. Not only is my dryer working better than ever, but I also feel much safer knowing everything is cleaned properly. The technician was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole process easy and stress-free. Highly recommend Chimney Sweep Pros for anyone needing dryer vent maintenance ? truly top-notch service."

Chimney Inspection questions, answered by experts

The principal, common, and auxiliary rafters are the most frequently used types of rafters. Principal rafters are large and typically appear toward the edges of the roof. Common rafters are smaller than principal rafters. Some people may use a mix of common and principal rafters. The auxiliary rafter is not common, but it provides extra reinforcement for a principal rafter on a large building.

Take a look at your roof shingles from the ground or from a ladder, and look for cracked or missing shingles, which are the most obvious signs of roof damage. You should also look for pockmarks from hail and blown debris, as well as blisters that could indicate a moisture issue or a problem with the installation. Inside your home, be on the lookout for water spots on the ceilings on your upper floor, as this is a clear sign of a roof leak.

The easiest way to tell if your roof vent boot is leaking is to look in your attic for signs of water damage. You might see visible moisture, water spots, or mold on the roof decking around the roof vent or damaged or soggy insulation below it. If you don’t have access to your attic or aren’t sure if the vent boot is the issue, hire a professional to come inspect your roof and figure out the underlying issue.

Homeowners insurance does not usually cover roof soft spot repair. Since this damage is usually caused by wear and tear and often found on aging roofs, your insurance claim will likely be rejected. If a soft spot develops due to damage from a storm, repairs may be covered, but in general, expect to pay out of pocket for soft spot repairs.

There is a weight limit for walking on a roof, but it’s determined by your roof structure and not the roofing material, at least in the case of a metal roof. Consider that entire teams of roofers will be on top of your home during the installation, so the weight of a single person won’t compromise your roof. That isn’t the case for something like a tile roof, so a high weight limit is one benefit of a metal roof.
