"Kenny was prompt and gave a very quote. His work was excellent. He not only repaired our spanish tile roof but also did a marvelous job on our 2nd story flat roof deck applying waterproofing sealer. I would definitely recommend him and I plan to use him again."

"It went very, very well. I had contacted Dan and set an appt a couple of weeks prior. Dan is a true professional and someone who actually cares that things are done correctly. Dan even came back the morning of the closing to handle another minor repair that wasn't initially discovered by the over zealous home inspector.

"We recently renovated our kitchen and the contractor we used was unreliable, unprofessional and did a terrible job. Because we had a negative experience with a contractor we interviewed numerous companies before painting. We found John DeRose on Angies list and contacted several of his references. We chose John DeRose because he was highly recommended, seemed knowledgeable and was responsive to our questions and concerns. His price was competitive but fair for the work contemplated. We only intended to paint a few rooms but after Mr. DeRose started the job we decided to paint the entire house and garage because his work was not only excellent but his work ethic was refreshing. His crew showed up each day on time and worked more than a full day or what would be expected. Each day Mr. DeRose went through the house with me to be sure it was complete and to my satisfaction. When i decided a color did not please me, the work was re-done with a smile. If an area of a wall or room needed repair before painting, it was repaired without me having to ask. The faux painter used by Mr. DeRose was also excellent and very creative. The crew was very polite and each day they cleaned up the house before they left. They were courteous, professional and did a terrific job. I can honestly say that I would use them again and highly recommend them. Feel free to contact me for a reference. "I can’t say enough good things about the work performed by Champion Concrete and the owner, Jaime Basilio. Of all the companies we had quote extensive repairs to the bricks for our 10 unit condominium, Jaime was the most professional and knowledgeable. He has a very good eye for detail and recognized areas in need of repair that were overlooked by the residents and other contractors we had bid the job. From start to finish, the project was done timely and efficiently. The debris was cleaned up and removed. Most importantly, Jaime communicated with us on a daily basis via phone, text and pictures of the progress they were making daily as he is on sight to supervise his excellent crew. You won’t be sorry hiring Champion Concrete for all your paver repair and replacement needs!"

"hired Master Painting and Remodeling to paint the exterior of my house. I initially hired Master Painting because their price was the lowest of several competing bids, and I hoped that they would do a fair to good job. What I received was far beyond my expectations. The crew was on time and hard at work each morning, and they often worked well into the evening. They did an excellent job painting, and now my house looks brand new again. I can't say enough about them. I received quality, professional service and great value for the money I spent. I would hire them again, and I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of exterior painting and repairs"

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

Yes. Freestanding or floating decks are exactly what the name implies—structures with their own support beams. You can build a deck yourself and place it next to a house for the illusion of a connected deck without the hassle. Or you can construct it in a separate part of your yard for a dedicated outdoor entertainment space. For the purpose of removing a freestanding deck, the steps are the same as an attached deck, but you don’t have to cut the deck away from the home.

You typically don’t need a railing and handrails on a deck that’s less than 30 inches from the ground. However, consider adding them regardless. Railings provide additional safety for you and your guests who use your deck—plus, railings give the deck a more finished look than it would have without them.

The cost to repair a deck is between $900 and $3,500, depending on the cause and extent of the damage. For example, fixing a sinking deck caused by pest damage can cost between $200 and $600, while replacing sinking boards costs between $500 and $4,000.
