"I was given a quote over the phone based on the details of the move I provided. They arrived on-time on the day of the move. The owner arrived and briefed me on the days events. The workers wrapped the furniture with shrink wrap and moved everything with a "hustle" but were very cautious with the items. The entire move took just over 3 hours.

"All was going pretty well till they realized they needed another truck. The problem was we needed to be at our closing on the sale of our home, so this made us late. Because of being late we had to spend the night in a hotel & wait til the next day to get the check from the sale of our home. We had animals, not dogs but cats to worry about which made it even more difficult. They also bent a bicycle up. The stem that is connected to the handlebars was all out of alignment. I could straighten it out close to normal. But the worst was the fork. It could not be repaired. I'm not sure how they packed it to do that damage. I ended up having to trash the bike."

Piano Moving questions, answered by experts

It can be tempting to want to help your movers as they pack or transport your belongings, but in general, most movers prefer their customers to stay out of the way. Rest assured that your movers are confident in their skills and the process will likely go faster without your help. If you see something concerning, let your movers know right away so they can adjust or remedy the issue.

To make sure that your moving quote is fair, check current prices for hiring movers in your area. Your starting and final locations can affect the price. You should also make sure you include the cost of any specialty movers in your price estimate. Calculate your moving costs including the estimated expense of moving services and compare the figure to average costs in your area.

Qualified piano movers will take several steps to protect your piano from damage during the move. First, they'll wrap the piano to protect its finish. Ideally, they'll wrap the piano in a specialized blanket that features a soft, padded interior and a tougher exterior.

After wrapping your piano, the movers will securely strap it to a dolly for safe transport to and from the moving truck. Once the piano is in the truck, movers might put the piano on a piece of plywood to help level it during the move, depending on the truck bed. They will then strap it in place so it doesn't shift around during the drive to your final destination.

No, homeowners insurance does not typically cover moving expenses. Homeowners insurance provides coverage and pay-outs if you experience damage to the home you currently live in. You’ll need to save separately for moving expenses like hiring movers, renting a tow truck, or shipping your belongings.

Most moving companies don’t charge by weight or volume unless you’re freight shipping items. The cost of hiring movers typically depends on the number of movers and time spent on the task.
