"First time hiring KDK Maintenance Co.. Everything was done in a professional manner. The owner Kyle came out to do the job & did we both did a walk thru around my 1 1/2 acre area of my fenced in yard. I only needed him to do mowing & fertilizer. I did all the weed wacking myself. I am super happy with this company. Made a maintenance schedule for this company to come back. My first time I used a professional to maintain my yard. I was very impressed when I talk with him for a price & how many times I wanted him to mow. Other companies only come out every 2 weeks . I needed someone to come out every 3 weeks. That was a plus to me. If your looking for a great professional to maintain your yard this is the company for you. You will not be disappointed."

"The installers are great guys and do top notch work.  The sales and supervision leaves something to be desired.
My biggest complaint is that they installed all the impact doors with the top/bottom locking mechanism as required, but they can only be engaged when you are inside the house.  ONE door should have been made to lock top and bottom after you exit the house. So after all that money one door is now locked only with the knob and deadbolt, making it vulnerable to fail in a
hurricane.  Jerry Hamburger should tell a homeowner that one door needs to be fully lockable from OUTSIDE.  It's fine
if you decide to stay in the house for a hurricane, but if you choose to evacuate for the storm then you are leaving
a vulnerable door.  All it takes is one door to fail.
The second issue is that the new doors are not all installed at the same height.  Some are resting on the slab, and some
are resting on top of a thick ceramic tile that was previously installed in the house.  I intervened to get one set of doors
to rest on the slab, but others were measured only to be on top of the tile.  Again, the sales people should pick up
that important detail.
I spoke at length with management about the door-locking problem to no avail.  I'm not left with a very good
feeling that I got a proper job planned and executed, and when I have the money I will get another company
to finish the job.

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

In most cases, wait three to five days to repot or relocate a plant from a greenhouse or nursery. That way, your plant has time to recover from any shock during the move and adapt to the conditions in and around your home. Some hearty plants may not need as long, and delicate plants might need several weeks. You should ask the professional at your nursery for a recommended timeline. Consider asking about an initial watering schedule to help stimulate root growth and promote a healthy plant.

You should plant trees at least 15 to 20 feet away from your house, and more if the tree will grow large and spread its limbs. Trees pose several dangers to houses when planted too close. They can litter the roof with leaves and branches, create fire hazards, make a ladder for larger pests, and even damage the foundation as their roots grow.

Unless it only rains once in a blue moon where you live, you’re going to want water-loving plants in your garden bed or pot. A few ideas for plants that aren’t super fast-growing (meaning they’re good in pots or near foundations) and can handle a lot of standing water include:

  • Acorus (Sweet flag)

  • Colocasia esculenta (Taro or elephant ear): In many climates, these are annuals, making them less desirable because you need to adjust the chain again after each replant.

  • Equisetum scirpoides (Dwarf horsetail rush): non-dwarf varieties of horsetail are fast growers and can take over quickly.

  • Juncus effusus (Curly rush)

  • Osmunda regalis (Royal fern): Royal fern can grow quickly but can also handle being crowded, making them good container plants.

The best way to landscape your front yard on a budget is to invest in hiring a professional for hardscaping—things like upgrading walkways, redoing driveways, and installing partitions around garden beds. You can often do the softscaping yourself—think laying down mulch, caring for your lawn, removing weeds, and planting flowers and shrubs. It’s also almost always worthwhile to pay a professional for routine yard maintenance, as this dramatically improves curb appeal and delivers above 100% ROI in most cases.

It’s usually best to buy plants from a local greenhouse or nursery yourself, but landscapers are also a reliable option. First, you can choose exactly what plants you want based on their appearance rather than relying on your landscaper to choose. Additionally, while it’s more time-consuming to go buy the plants yourself, you’ll often save money because landscapers charge for delivery and may upcharge the plants. You can also speak to a professional at a nursery to ensure you understand how to care for your plants and get the most long-term value.
